Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen (2022)
Renewed my somewhat interest into a real fan
I always thought Bleach was a cool show but I was never invested in its unique and deep storylines. I use to watch the show for its funny English dubs. Even the music & sound effects brought back that nostalgia.
That is until now, the show gets you immediately immersed and its over before you know it. The show has upped its quality in every way. Refreshingly new characters, comedy, actions scenes, storylines and even the animation is better.
Ive become a real fan now because of this new series. It even got me watching the previous seasons but I eventually gave up. Thats ok, this new series will help you catch up. Lookin forward to more..
The Witcher (2019)
Third season coulda been so amazing but its still worth watching.
After two seasons and a couple of ep, this show has downgraded significantly. The characters, story-telling and overall entertainment value just arent there anymore. Its missing something, perhaps a couple of things.
I was lookin forward to this third season because the first two were decently built up. But now, I almost lost all interest. I will endure the remaining episodes simply because I like to finish what I started.
Its a shame Henry will not be part of the show anymore. Talk about squandering a good thing. He was the only reason I kept watching. The rest of the crew leaves much to be desired and the storytelling isnt helping at all. Perhaps there will be major changes for the better but replacing Henry is not one of them.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Try to keep an open-minded perspective because She-Hulk works better as the antagonist.
She-Hulk is everything that is wrong with society today but on steroids. If you think about it, this shows She-Hulk would make the ideal villain. Imagine if the roles were reversed and Hulk treated everybody like She-Hulk did. He would be called misogynist, bigot, narcissist, racist and some more sh*t.
Anyway, its a show that lacks self-awareness or class and they try to excuse it by calling it a comedy. The only problem is that its not funny. All they do is laugh at and insult people as if they have some kind of moral superiority. Instead, it exposes its own contradictions and hypocrisies. Its basically saying, we are better than you and you are going to like it.
At the end of the day, its just not entertaining. Instead, its preachy, cringy and worst of all it makes the woman super hero unlikable. What the hell is going on with Marvel? How did it come to this and whos allowing all this to happen? How much more money are they willing to lose? Its been on a downward trend big time! I hope the next phase of Marvel makes the proper course correction, like a 180 turn the opposite way.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
This is not Lord of the Rings nor is it anything like Tolkein lore. With that said...
Most people have seen or heard about the Hobbit & Lord of the Rings stories by Tolkein. For those who havent will not understand all the controversy. With that said, Rings of Power was brought to us by Amazon for all people.
The productions had everything they needed incl a billion dollars for 8 shows. Im not sure where all the $ went but the end result was a very expensive mixed bag of reviews and a very controversial sequence of events from the productions, actors and even review sites (all paid by Amazon).
After the first two episodes, I was kinda disappointed and it didnt get any better. In fact, it got worse. Characters were uninteresting, fake and lacked development. The dialogue and storylines must of been written by teenagers or something close. Much of it didnt make sense and worst of all, the blatant misrepresentation of Tolkein's lore. After 4 episodes, I was thirsting to find anything interesting besides CGI backgrounds. So I stopped watching. That is til the final ep came out, I finally finished it.
There seemed to be a repurposing of the original stories especially the characters. It seemed like entertaining the viewers was secondary. So what was the point of making this series? Overall, it was mostly boring and plastic regardless of how unfaithful they were to the original lore. It was a cringe-fest to be honest, a repurposed fan-fiction at best.
Glory (1989)
Glorious indeed. One of My Favorites of All-Time!
Movies should be cinematic, dynamic and most of all, entertaining. Films, shows and series are projects that fall short of what we expect from an experience we call a movie. Glory was able to encompass all these aspects into almost a whole different experience itself. The history, informative documentary, genres, hollywood factor, the politics, the productions and actors, the story, etc. were well thought out and beautifully executed.
The story is a journey through the experiences of military men back in the civil war days. Two basic groups of men, the privileged and the rest. It starts off with the horrifying realities of war, death. But as we journey through the story we realize that death is not the worst part. The movie tries to show the conflicts between men of power, race, and loyalty while fighting a war. The fighting of arms is the backstory, but the real fighting is amongst themselves.
We see two different cultures working in different ways to ultimately unite as one. Some of the most incredible scenes were not really the battles but by the interactions of the men. The camp fire scene was denzels highlight. He even managed to shed some tears, impressive. It was spiritual, memorable and entertaining. His role and performance symbolized the moral of the story.
One other powerful scene was when the sarge slapped trip for using the n word against his own. One of many powerful and memorable scenes.
Ive worked in West Baltimore for 35yrs. Im korean and own a corner grocery store. I still cringe when i hear youngens still using that word as a term of endearment. They would never dare say it in front of the older generation regardless of what it means or spelled. Watching a movie like Glory reminds us of all the horrors of bigotry and racism has caused in our country. Thats right, my country is America and I am proud to have moved on from those dark times.
I go out of my way to thank Glory and all those who fought for our very freedoms we enjoy today. We can not forget our history and we must learn from our mistakes as a nation of diversity. We have diversity only because we were able to unite first. These types of truths is what created real freedom in America.
Glory is a great example of how struggles and suffering can bless a whole nation and they do it in such a powerful way. It wasnt just a great movie, it was a powerful message of unity vs. diversity and truth vs. freedom. Its a movie that educates not just of history but human nature. Racism can never be understood fully if you havent been a victim of racism first. A black man can never be understood fully by a white man or a korean man such as myself. And vice-versa. Fortunately we have a movie like Glory to give us the next best thing.
Glory is a movie told through the eyes of several types of men. Several stories wrapped in one. Although they were different, they were still able to triumph fighting as one, even if not victorious in the final battle, they were able to claim victory in more important ways.
Devilman: Crybaby (2018)
wow! im still not sure what i just saw and i just finished all 10 episodes in one sitting.
Growing up in usa i was excited to see ninja scroll, akira, ghost in the shell back in the 80's. There werent too many anime series available, now a days we have the anime universe in the palm of our hands cause of the net. There are thousands of anime series and movies, yet devilman still stands out in many different ways. Im surprised netflix featured devilman cause of the mature themes. It is down right gore and raw in every way possible. It basically does not give two cents about any of that cause its a big part of the concept. The duality of man, good and evil. Do we have demons within us, are we more good than bad, how is the balance maintained, who is winning if anybody, what is the endgame, etc. This anime is targeted to the 21 and over group. Its very psychological, philosophical, religious, spiritual, funny, sexy, slice of life but most of all, demonic. There will be lots of viewers who will turn away before the 1st ep even ends. The art is very good and unique. The storyline is quite unique as well and its pace is pretty steady. It keeps rockin it steady and knows how to have fun. 2018 anime is starting off guns blazing! Its almost like a continuous party with lots of great music, mostly rock and hiphop. So even if your not into all the spiritual stuff, its still one hell of a ride. Overall its a deep and dark concept but enjoys itself along the way. Hopefully there will be light at the end of the tunnel for the viewers experiencing the trials and tribulations of the devilman.
Mr. Robot: eps3.5_kill-pr0cess.inc (2017)
everyone is confused or deceived including the audience
Mr. robot is basically the only interesting and good show i watch these days and it has not disappoint. even tho ep3.5 has made the story- line so complex that its just too much trouble to try to even understand. nothing is wat it seems and elliot could be Mr. robot at anytime. the possibilities are limitless and there is a danger to being too fantastic and unrealistic of a show to be relevant. so far the show has maintained a somewat order but tonight it went out the window. im still very confused but perhaps that is the point. elliot and cast went thru all that trouble to stop a bomb that didn't mean anything and at the end 70 e corp bldgs still blow up. is elliot not the main characcter of the show? perhaps there is a bigger thing going on here that is beyond elliot and Mr robot? also does Mr robot intend to team up with elliot now since they both have been deceived? there are so many questions now cause of ep3.5 kill process but i have the utmost confidence in the show answering all the developing and twisting plot lines that they have created and destroyed. i like when story lines are deep but there is a danger of getting too deep and going too far with creativity. sometimes simple is better and deception is never a good idea unless there is a willingness of forgiveness on the audiences part. still deception is deception and nobody likes being lied to even if its for our own good and entertainment. good show overall nonetheless. i give much props to any show that gets me this riled up and thinking so hard about wat just happened and wats coming up next. keep rockin it steady yall, IMDb style.
Romanzo criminale - La serie (2008)
Have you been livin' under a rock? I think I have cause this is one of the best series I've ever seen. and I've seen a lot of them.
Gomorra La Series blew my mind and romanzo criminale blew up the rest of it. gomorra looked like they were about to kill a whole bunch of people but romanzo looked like they already have. that is how i compare these two amazing Italian crime series. i mean from the storyline to the characters and the rest of it, top tier entertainment. its realistic yet fantastic at the same time. how does a series stay soo interesting one might say. i guess there has to be killings, betrayal, surprises, victories and defeat. these two series has all of it and it never gets old. very well thought out and thoroughly executed. i know gomorra has a third season comin but its been a minute for this one. i hope there will be more and if not something similar. ill be watching these series again cause of the high replay value. its not for the faint hearted or the immature tho. i never really do reviews but this one well deserved one, its the least i could do. much props to the gomorra production and romanzo criminale productions. the actors and actresses did a great job even tho i had to read subtitles throughout. I've just started to look into more Italian shows and movies cause i didn't know they were soo good. hopefully IMDb will turn me out to some more. i look forward to more Italian TV in the near future cause it really doesn't get much better.
Gomorrah (2014)
hands down the most entertaining piece of entertainment I've ever seen! and I've seen almost all there is in the world of films.
I've seen soo many shows, movies, anime, documentaries, homevideos, porn, etc. I've also have read thousands of reviews and comments. everybody has their own tastes but when a show is as good as gomorra it doesn't even matter what your taste is. never have i seen such a thoroughly entertaining series since game of thrones. gomorra shows us how good a show can be even without the big expensive productions and special fx. great acting founded by a great story. i mean how do they keep every ep that good? its impressive, every ep. cant wait for the 3rd season. its a top tier series but not for the youngens or light hearted. fighting, killing, betrayal, etc creates drama. its full of it, just like game of thrones. i guess thats one way to keep original story lines with twists left and right and very unpredictable without being corny or cheesy. much props to this production called gomorra and there's also a movie thats suppose to be pretty good as well. gomorra deserves all the credit and than some..
Game of Thrones: Battle of the Bastards (2016)
epic climax and yet so much more to come...
after reading hundreds of reviews of hundreds of shows and movies, I've finally found the motivation to write one after watching this episode time and again. there is simply no other show or movie that quite delivers the entertainment like the game does, esp this next to last ep. the whole series has been consistently great and there is plenty of it. from the story lines, characters, productions to the very end has been thoroughly satisfying and leaving me wanting more. at times i find myself so immersed, that i forget its not real life. meantime its worth watching over and over again esp this last season and episodes. the timing and culmination stands far above any other cause its so emotionally rewarding. all the story lines are well thought out and executed. much props to all the people involved. you guys know how to entertain with the visual arts. and finally the actors were spot on. its amazing to see their actual transformations over the years, so many years of consistent epicness. do yourself a favor and watch the game, again and again.
