Blair Witch (2016)
Corbin Reid's Character Ashley Unbearable to Watch
One of the worst trends with otherwise good horror films is having to endure helpless millennials struggle and panic in the most mildest of situations. Ashley, played by Reid is the epitome of this. Her relentless whining is all to normal and expected of the millennial population but downright unbearable to those of us who have skin thicker than wet tissue paper.
Seeing young adults who can barely survive cold symptoms attempt to spend the night in the wild gets the viewer distracted by their profound fragility and lose the story. Ashley cuts her foot and the whole group has a moment of utter panic which is normal for fellow millennials watching but simply irritating for normal people. Sequencing was good. Sound and visuals were well done. Unfortunately Ashley and her nerve-racking whining while being coddled by her dim-witted cohorts just took away from the eeriness that should've been the forefront of the movie.
Most Beautiful Island (2017)
Anticlimactic if you can allow yourself to admit it.
Ana performed well in regards to her character. But from the reviews and accolades I've read let's be honest. A young woman struggling to make ends meet, taking multiple odd jobs in a day and finding life to be a struggle is hardly unique to immigrants or NYC.
Bad Ben: The Way In (2019)
Come on Guys, Let's be Honest ....
Ok ok. For all of us who comb through Prime looking for a hidden gem B-horror, low budget, FF, film..we get it. Bad Ben and Steelmanville Rd were entertaining. But since then it's been an absolute disaster. That Crescent Moon Clown one was an abomination to film making and this one along with Haunted Highway aren't much better if at all. Come on Nigel, give us a good one! Boooooooo! Lol.
Widow's Point (2019)
Craig Shaffer? What Happened to you?
I'm a huge horror/B- horror fan. I comb through all the FF, UFO, paranormal stuff, and creative features available on Prime. Seeing this movie starred Craig Shaffer along with an acceptable preface I have it a shot.
First, what happened to CS acting? I consider him just under an A list actor and have enjoyed his films. This movie opens with absolutely awful acting. CS agent is one of the worst in the film. All of the actors were just unbearable to watch. I was hoping CS would make this movie bearable. After a box of Cheezits....he just didn't.
If you're a fan of hidden gems, avoid this one. It needs to remain hidden.
The Farm (2018)
Psychotic Vegan Activist At It's Worst..
I understand the biologically confused attitude about the natural omnivorous nature of humans. Those who want to slaughter plants that are living organisms with need for water and nutrients have every right to do so as top of the food chain organisms. However, when you show such a disregard for human life ( an animal by the way ) by murdering an infant you only show your lack of humanity and utterly disgusting attitude about your hatred for the meat industry and those who consume meat. The baby scene is morally reprehensible and beyond making a statement. It's childishly ignorant and extreme activism beyond any sense of decency. Education and peaceful protests if it's the treatment of animals you're so opposed of, and rightfully so. But this? Beyond asinine.
Bad Ben 7: The Haunted Highway (2019)
Definitely the worst of Bad Ben series....
Not that this movie really is involved with the Bad Ben series ...but goodness what a mess. I became a fan of Nigel Bach after the first Bad Ben. There are those of us who enjoy those low budget quirky C-horror films. Unfortunately Nigel's films have slowly deteriorated with this one being the bottom feeder. Crescent Clown was awful but this one really stunk. You'll watch it because Nigel intrigued and entertained us with the Bad Ben & Steelmanville Rd movies, but prepare for disappointment.
Stay (2017)
An unexpected pleasure
I'm sure if you're reading this you're one of us. You know, we love to scour through Prime hoping to find a worthwhile and sometimes even an excellent unknown film. Well this is just that. Excellent I thought. I agree with others that I'd like to have seen the actual story leading up to the imprisonment, but not a deal breaker by any means.
Brooke Devlin, whom I'd never seen before was fantastic. I'll admit it was difficult to suppress the fact that she is astonishingly gorgeous and just focus on her character. She made it much easier by portraying Claire so well. Her expressions, tone and mannerisms were exquisite. I really thought she was amazing and will be looking for her in other projects. By all means watch this movie. It's got many philosophical concepts that I won't go into. Watch and enjoy.
The Ruins (2008)
Good story and good pace. But.....
This movie is certainly worth watching for free for those of you who enjoy 'a group of young people venture ...' themed movies. Once again however I'm reminded of one thing: Don't ever get into an emergency or survival situation with millennials. These guys are the most out of touch, pampered, and self indulged nit wits in our country. The bickering that goes on especially from the useless girls is maddening. And when their friend has just been executed and they're at the top of the monument when the one guy suggests they save the water when the ditzy blonde grabs the bottle...the other guy actually says, 'Jeff....she's thirsty' LOL! But then I remembered that millennials think they have to hydrate every 15 minutes or they'll dry up and die. So decent movie and good concept ruined by whiny, ill-prepared and pathetic instagrammers.
Capps Crossing (2017)
Don't understand the positive reviews.
Look, I'm a B film, independent, low budget, FF movie buff. We all know what we like to find. Those little gems that come out of nowhere like Falling Uphill, Survive the Shallow Shoals, Bad Ben series. But this one? What a mess. Horrible acting, pieced together and rushed. Awful dialogue. Honestly I didn't finish it because it was just a waste of time. I'm not seeing at all what those who gave a positive review have said. Pass this one. Nothing to see here.
Goliath (2016)
This is not to be compared with Season 1!
Please ignore the clowns who are giving this a bad rating. This is Season 2. It's a completely different story. Millennials who can't grasp the concept of character development will miss this entirely. There is no courtroom drama in Season 2. So what? It was an intense and exciting story where we also got to see our main characters in different states of character and how they responded to them. Billy actually trying a relationship only to get burned. Patty letting down her steel wall defense then betraying a nice guy. The story was riveting and so intense all during he hostage time in Mexico! If you didn't like this ...well...sorry. You're just wrong.
Paint Dry (2017)
Title is accurate.
Unfortunately the title was actually a spoiler for what to expect. I'm quite surprised this film won any awards. I tried to like it. But when you embark on a British comedy, you better bring your best because they are usually top notch when it comes to dialogue. The exchanges between the two main characters are only mildly amusing at best. At not an important issue, but it was hard to ignore the obscene amount of mascara the main character was wearing. He looked like he was in drag but without the dress. The snipets from the group of friends giving advice periodically were not refreshing takes away from the bland dialogue we were subjected to in the main story. They were more just a continuation of the same. Sorry. I was greatly disappointed with this one.
Being Awesome (2014)
A gem. And we all know what you're looking for.
Very good flow to the individual stories with a creative and realistic way of them all having the same theme. The characters were well developed and had their own personalities. I really enjoyed this film. Lloyd reminded me of Paul Giamatti's character (Miles) from 'Sideways' both in character and physical appearance. I definitely recommend it to those of you browsing through Prime looking for a gem.
