Gangster (2014)
Same Story, Different Storytelling
The title - Gangster, the star - Mammootty and the director - Ashiq Abu had given me high hopes about the then upcoming movie. With the trailer revealing very little plot and setting up a dark and eerie ambiance, I was very excited to see the then expected to be hit of the year.
The movie started off like a below average anime, narrating the history of the protagonist. The storytelling was refreshing since I have never seen anything similar in another Malayalam movie. Unfortunately that's the only compliment I can give this movie. The plot was slow and very predictable. The movie lacked any character development. Some visual effects were good, but most of it were annoying. The story moves at the pace of a snail.
I appreciate Ashiq Abu for experimenting with the storytelling despite it's similarity with some Hollywood movies but he chose the same old over-told story to do this with.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Best TV show I have ever seen
I have got to admit I am not much of a TV show fan, but BrBA made me one.
I finished watching seasons 1 through 5 in less than a month. I guess you can understand how addictive BrBa is from that.
I tried watching several other TV shows but nothing came close. The most exciting feature of the show that I found is Mr. Walter White and his brilliance. Walter White is easily one of my favorite fictitious characters of all time.
The five seasons deal with different issues and all are equally incredible.
I have never felt so sad when a movie or TV show ended. It was truly heartbreaking, I thank the Breaking Bad team for making such an awesome show.
Miss you Mr. White!
Arrow (2012)
A thriller to kill time
Arrow is a very entertaining series. You'll find your self biting your nails occasionally. The starting is a quite blunt but it gets sharper as the plot moves forward. They also did a good job ending each episode with an exciting sequence which makes sure you watch the next episode.
The biggest flaw is that it lacks originality.
It seems clear that the whole theme is based on Christopher Nolan's Batman Franchise. There are several parts in the show where you feel resemblances to the three batman movies. I also expected similarities from "Cast Away" which I am glad wasn't there.
Apart from these two movies several scenes remind you of epic scenes from various movies. Looking at the bright side those scenes are worth another watch and the crew has done justice to the original scenes.
I believe its worth a watch if you are looking for entertainment, but chances are that you have already heard the philosophy part in other superhero movies.
Nee Ko Nja Cha (2013)
The fag end is good
The most obvious thing about the movie is the acting. None of the cast could act decently, all of them delivered dialogues like they were reading it from somewhere. Sunny Wayne's performance in second show was incredible and my expectations about him was high when i went to watch this movie. The director could have done way better.
There are some funny moments in the film, but they too were in bad situations.
I bunked class and went for this movie and I think class would have been better.Watching the movie was a pain.
In the fag end there was a good twist which made one good scene.
Anyway I don't think one good scene is enough to call a movie decent let alone good.
Theevram (2012)
just a bad revenge movie
Murder method copied from the TV series DEXTER.
Scenes in which you can't even distinguish whether it is comedy or tragedy.
Very disappointing.
The only good thing the movie could do was expose Dulquer Salmaan's caliber. His performance was awesome so was Sreenivasan's.Everything else was just substandard. There are some good parts which are shadowed by the bad parts.
It is obvious that the director is a rookie. Sorry Roopesh Peethambaran, better luck next time.
Diamond Necklace (2012)
Best Malayalm Movie of 2012
Lal Jose and Iqbal Kuttipuram has teamed up again to create a masterpiece. This is so far the best movie by the duo. Kuttipuram has been able to see the lifestyle of the ambitious youngsters who get blinded by the money they earn at a very young age. The movie is a depiction of the life of a doctor working in Dubai living the "good life". "No regrets about the past No worries about the future just living in the present" attitude which all flips when banks refuse to loan him any more money.Being broke he gets things which money can't buy. A movie which shows glimpses of the meaning o life. Just brilliant.
God Bless America (2011)
Exposing the sad truth in a funny way
The movie shows the life of an average depressed(statistics show more than 5% Americans suffer from depression) American who feels his life is empty and so are that of others but they seem absolutely fine about it, while he is not.Frank(Murray) who had been accepting all the rubbish thrown at him his whole life finally decides to take action. The movie shows his adventures on trying to bring about a new world order and in the process, getting a teenaged sidekick. The issues satirically brought out in the movie are one's which we come across everyday.Though exaggerated you might find it quite true. There are quite a few incredibly hilarious scenes any open minded would just love. The movie is shot in a unique way, low budget but not of low quality. There are quite a bit of lags here and there which made me remove a star which leaves God Bless America with 9 stars. I really recommend everyone to watch this amazing picture. GOD BLESS America AND THE REST OF THE WORLD.
