Shôgun: A Dream of a Dream (2024)
It depends
If it's a season finale we just watched this episode was a masterpiece.
If it was a series finale then I have some issues with it.
I know that this series was a character study and it was not about battles etc but the promise of a war or at least a battle was implied from episode 1
If the series ends just with Toranaga describing his imaginary (and most likely) outcome of all the events then I am sorry but it's not the way a series of this caliber should have ended.
It's like Tyrion Lannister describing the Red Wedding to us.
For all I found it was a series finale and I am a bit upset although I loved all the episodes I didn't like the landing.
Wednesday (2022)
Predictable but charming
You can tell from the first 1-2 episodes who the killer is. It's predictable but it's a charming series.
Didn't get all the Tim Burton vibes I was expecting
It's like a CW series but with better pacing and better written characters.
Good acting all around, Jenna Ortega is shining here but the misters could have been way better.
I get that it's for young teenagers but with the amount of mystery killer movies out there they could have done a better job not to be that predictable
Pros wasn't expecting this to be a murder mystery series
Cons the mystery is not that intriguing if you've watched a couple of mystery movies before.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Mediocre with good performances
Nothing unexpected,
It acts mysterious with the non linear and narrative structure but it's afraid to take risks.
Don't understand the 7.8 here, it had good performances though.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Disappointed
Obi Wan is so far very disappointing
There is no central story plot line to look forward
It's just Lea she got kidnapped, old Ben saves her and again and again while we get a glimpse or two of Vader.
Their fight by the way was very disappointing.
Ozark: A Hard Way to Go (2022)
What an awful finale to a great series
Izard was my favorite Netflix show
What a horrible finale that was. Especially the 180' turn that Jonah had whose whole season 4 arc is thrown into the garbage for the last scene of the series where he kills the detective out of nowhere while up until 5 min ago he was rebelling against his family's ways.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Misleading Marketing
The synopsis of the film has nothing to do with the film
For a multiverse film there is not enough multiverse there
Also the most important/ surprised cameo is spoiled at the trailer and also it had no impact at the film (just like the other cameos)
The Northman (2022)
Not what they marketed as but a really good movie
This movie was marketed like "Braveheart" but with Vikings
In reality is a Robert Eggers film just as you would imagine it.
Artistic, slow burned with some of his favorite cast members in it.
Don't expect to watch a blood fest and lots of battles in this, though there are some brutal scenes.
It's a revenge story, told in an artistic and poetic way. It won't be for everyone but if you liked Robert Eggers previous films you're gonna love this.
P. S after seeing this I really hope Robert Eggers makes an Odyssey movie he would crush it.
House of Gucci (2021)
Too long
Interesting story
Way too long of a run time, good acting for the most part but the run time for this story was way too much I almost slept at the theater at some point
It should have been 2 hours tops not 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Surreal but also so realistic satire of the world we live in
Felt the need to watch Leo DiCaprio, Meryl Strip, Timothee Chalamet and Jenifer Lawrence, all together in a movie, in theaters and not streamed it next week.
The movie is funny not in a typical "comedy" way, but in a realistic real world - satire way.
It obviously drew inspiration from the COVID situation enlarging every aspect of it in satirical way.
Johan Hill is so good in playing the dump, overpowered brat, every line of his is gold.
My only issue with the film is the running time, 2 and a half hours for this story is too much and it dragged at times and inevitably repeated itself at times.
Also Adam Mcay's humor at times it's too on the nose pointing fingers at certain type of people but that's a personal opinion. I like jokes and satire in general to be more settle and whoever gets it, gets it. I prefer to think and analyze a satire rather than have it shoved down in my throat but that's what the film was going for I get it.
You should watch it when it comes out, movies like this with this kind of star power and talent are rare these days.
The Office: Dinner Party (2008)
Best TV episode a sitcom ever had
This episode is imo the best sitcom episode ever put out there.
The whole Jan-Micheal relationship was built over the course of 2-3 seasons to have this amazing episode. 10/10
Super funny in an awkward, uncomfortable way
Steve Carell and Melora Hardin are amazing in this episode.
Yellowstone (2018)
Had great potential
This series had a great potential to be an all time classic
Great cinematography, amazing landscapes, really good acting for the most part)
The writing is solid, but it's lacking in spirit, it's like all the ingredients are there but the product is rushed out of the oven before it was ready
More soap opera than I would have liked, this with some rewrites and more behind the scenes politics between the characters could have been a merge of house of cards and game of thrones (storytelling wise).
Now it's fine but it's shallow.
Dune (2021)
Please let it be a part 2
Unbelievable film, the only reason I don't give it a 10/10 is because as of right now we don't know if there is going to be a part 2. It's this generation's lord of the rings potentially but we have to see the next one to judge it as a whole. The story is so clearly cut in half, there is no clear arc 1, arc 2, arc 3
It feels like it's arc 1 and 1.5 and then it ends.
Loved all the characters especially the Father. Also timothee chalamet is at his best in this, great lead of the film.
Maid (2021)
Heartwarming, emotional, real
Maid is so much better that I expected
The acting is top notch, the writing is phenomenal keeping it grounded and real through out.
It's a slow paced series focusing on the characters and their individual straggles.
There is not true villain even the husband has his own background story and reasoning on why being how he is.
Amazing series hopefully will inspire abused women (and men) to find the help they need and realize they have the power to stop things.
Jagten (2012)
What a masterpiece
Not gonna say anything about it. If you love character driven movies this is a must watch.
What a masterpiece of a movie.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Too long, laking continuous plot
I love Tarantino and this movie has Tarantino written all over it.
That been said the way it was structured with not a clear plot/ story driving the plot but rather a follow along the characters in their day to day life feeling to it made it feel too long and uneventful. I get it was an artistic choice that Tarantino made but it didn't work for me
If it wasn't for Leo and Brad, their starpower and talent this movie wouldn't have worked the way it did.
Got to say the finale though was amazing, unexpected and really hilarious in classic Tarantino fashion.
Overall maybe the weakest of Tarantino's films along with hateful 8 for me.
BoJack Horseman (2014)
Never excepted what I got from this
This adult cartoon series is really deep, greatly written and more realistic than many movies that deal with depression, selfishness and society issues.
Started it thinking it was another adult comedy cartoon in the likes of Family Guy (which don't get me wrong I really like) and what I got was way better. This series is an emotional roller coaster, with dark humor and really really dark moments that highlight the greatly established reality of this fictional word.
One of the best drama series ever made cartoon or not.
Highly recommend.
Världens vackraste pojke (2021)
Felt incomplete
Intriguing story, good cinematography but the overall story felt incomplete at times.
Maybe it was the run time that didn't do it for me, 92 min felt too much for this kind of story and what the creators were trying to say, maybe it's the fact that I personally prefer documentaries with more of a "did he or did he not" feeling in their storytelling.
Maybe that's just me.
Never mind besides my review I really hope the protagonist of the documentary finds his inner peace eventually, he seams like a genuinely good guy.
Loki (2021)
Good ideas mediocre series
I am not impressed with the Disney + marvel series
They all 3 so far had 1-2 good episodes, and the he rest of them were purely made and written in my humble opinion
Netflix with way less budget made 2 perfect series ( Daredevil and Punisher) and some bad ones
Hope Disney will find its way.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Perfect ending to a great 20+ movie arc
To me Endgame is not the absolute perfect movie but sure as hell is the perfect ending to a great arc
Don't think they could have made a better movie
Great job
Love watching it as a marathon with Infinity War makes it even better.
Black Widow (2021)
Mediocre movie top 5 worst MCU easy
It's not a bad movie but it's not a good one by any means
It's a pity the first and only Black Window film was so soulless
The movie is 5 years late easy. The ending especially is just loud action scenes and explosions no meaning whatsoever.
She had a perfect character ending in Endgame, and then they make a prequel movie right after the events of Civil war which didn't contribute to the character or the overall story
The film was purely made to make money with a generic plot.
Little they know COVID happened and they didn't even make that, such an irony.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Foreshadowing isn't character development
Even though the visuals of the episode were excellent, the writing has been terrible. The evil turn of Daenerys even though it has been foreshadowing in previews seasons doesn't feel earned and developed, she just snapped and burned women and children. There wasn't a character arc, a journey if you will for the audience and the character to experience together so that the "Mad Queen" storyline would feel earned and reasonable. It just happened.
