This is a now familiar story which should have been more gripping. But for me it was a sanitised version, a mixture of Grantchester and Harry Potter. handsomely produced. Lacked grit and darning (! all clothes in excellent order).Good to see and know the story if you don't already because it was important. And a personal tragedy for Turing.

Another abduction and a terrified female. Running through forests. Detective with home/life 'issues' Unsolved, haunting case. Dark house with barely a creature comfort. mental health issues (must mean a danger, then). Howling dogs. (Watch out Dylan's mam). Sound familiar? Yep, like every other 'policier' dished up recently. Some Scandis are great, (The Killing, The Bridge) some are dire (can't even remember the awful one with Puck the law student or the tedious Icelandic one with the avalanche), and I mercifully can't even remember the recent Belgian one with the incompetently drumming detective. Hinterland was absorbing, River was fine. Keeping Faith was OK. But this one is so awful I resent every minute I've spent trying to get into it. I missed episode 3, then caught up. To my astonishment I hadn't really missed much. So I watched episode 4. Dear Lord. 5 minutes' action stretched to 60.Repetitive and slow. Stretched to the limit so far to ensure 8 episodes. I'm off. The Emperor has nothing on at all.

This is abysmal, slow and derivative. Not even OK for a Saturday night in. I just couldn't get to the characters, not enough characterisation, wooden and some acting really poor. The amnesia provided a quick plot background tool,'you are .....', 'this is .....'. Oh dear. Need to find a good book for the next few Saturday nights.10 episodes? Puhleeese.......
However I have stuck with it. Nothing else on and I'm housebound for a while. It's still slow and overcooked. And overplotted. And I still can't believe in most of the characters. But I'll stick with it as I'm a captive audience.
