Stargate SG-1 (1997–2007)
9/10
One of the best.
7 February 2019
I am watching this for a second time, because the sci-fi on now is terrible TBH. Too much gore, sex and stupidity in most sci-fi series now, Star-Trek Discovery a case in point. SG-1 has good strong likeable characters, good actors, good plots and overall a great series to watch and enjoy. There is no need to see blood and guts, and have f-bombs dropped every other scene and sex scenes when the story line of your show and your characters are strong. Ok some of the science is way off, but I can forgive that if the story-line is strong and it fits in with the SG-1 universe. Overall as good if not better than Battle Star Galactica and miles better than tripe like ST Discovery.

The Orville (2017–2022)

This is the real Star Trek show on TV at the moment.
31 January 2019
Forget about Discovery, it's too dark gloomy, gory and takes itself to seriously. Its more like an Alien spin off than Star Trek. If you want a show that looks and feels like the Star Treks pre Discovery, then watch The Orville. It has some pretty good story lines and acting, along with some slap stick funny scenes and jokes. Most of all unlike Discovery, the crew are likeable and interesting and the stories usually have a happy ending.

Excellent animation that kids will love
5 December 2018
I just don't understand the low score on imdb for this film. My son and I thought this film was great, just like a kids animation of indiana jones, it has all the action and excitement of a jones movie. The animation is also very well done. It's probably an 8 out of 10 but because its score is so low I have decided to give a 10.

Super hero movies are getting boring
5 August 2018
So how many times can you make a movie with the exact same plot. Apparently, as many times as you want . Seriously, too many of these movies, the studies should be investing in something more original and new. I started watching this and I could tell what was going to happen after 5 minutes. I won't be watching anymore of these movies.

It was alright but stupid ending
2 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Just watched this on Netflix, and it was kinda alright for a fantasy movie. The set looked nice and the acting was decent. The plot was pretty predictable even if you don't know the 47 ronin story already. The plot where the 'half breed' Keanu Reeves, does everything and anything to rescue the girl so he can then kill himself with the other 'samurai' in a mass suicide, was pretty stupid and kinda ruined what would have been a quite nice good guy wins happy ending. Anyway, if your bored it's worth a watch, but I would not go out of your way to see it.

Starts slow but gets much better by season 3, then gets cancelled !
27 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this show when it first aired. I liked season one, but did not think it was brilliant, season two got better as you started to really get a feel for the characters and plot, then season 3 was really good, I could not wait for the next episodes, the story was really starting to unravel and get interesting. Then the show got cancelled and the last episode was left on a cliffhanger. Which is complete BS ! Have I just wasted all those hours or will netflix/amazon ... give this brilliant series the final season it and the viewers deserves ? I hope I get to see a proper ending for this series.

Butlers over the top bad cop act was absurd and boring
22 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This sounded like it would be a good film, but honestly the over the top bad cop acting was stupid. No one believes that any cop could go on like this in front of everyone and still be a cop. The heist plot sounded like it should be a decent film, but the absurdly to the point of being funny, over the top bad cop act by Butler ends up making this film more a joke than decent heist movie. The movie had more plot holes than my local high street after a long dark cold winter, I mean seriously, is it this easy to get in and out of the federal reserve bank ? The movie is not bad if you take your brain, eyes and ears out before you begin the movie. Don't waste two hours of your life, like I did !

Great first episode
13 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Just watched the first episode and I am impressed. Really like the first episode, netflix have spent a lot of money and this and it really shows with great cgi, great script, great acting with likeable characters and an all round excellent sci-fi that ALL the family can watch. Netflix have not disappointed and I can't wait to watch the rest of the episodes. Ignore the bad reviews, the first episode was an excellent example of how to write good family sci-fi, the great special effects are a bonus.

UPDATE**** So I completed the whole season, and my opinion did not change. It is still the best family sci-fi on tv. The close family story lines remind me of TerraNovan, which I also loved. What makes this show is the robot in my opinion. I actually felt gutted when Will made it walk of a cliff and I was happy when it was brought back to life. Hopefully there is a second season (fingers crossed) and the robot will be brought back (again) and we will find out more about it and it's home world. Anyway, as I said, really good sci-fi, just wish they had longer seasons.

Not bad in first two seasons, third season pretty poor
10 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the first two seasons were decent, though the plots are OTT and the main characters were starting to get pretty irritating by the end of season two. Into season three and it's becoming quite boring and really stupid no more so than the quote "how can we live on 320 million dollars ?" The episodes seem to drag with nothing much really happening except the rich guy popping up every 5 minutes or so telling you how rich he is, while trying to manipulate someone. They should have finished the show at season two.

Funny at times but violence is to gory and graphic
9 February 2018
I have seen 6 episodes and in each episode there are some very funny moments, but this is countered by the over the top unnecessary violence and gore that the series has incorporated, this really makes the show unwatchable for some scenes. These scenes are meant to be done in a comical way, if thats possible, but still they are really graphic and over the top leaving nothing to the imagination. The swearing is pretty bad as well.

Overall, the plot has been done many times before, but it is still watchable and funny in places. I would have gave it an 8 but the unnecessary gore and violence drops my rating down to a 7.

Really good story and happy ending
1 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Well I took the family to watch this film today, and I was expecting it to be more for my 5 year old son than me. However, I have to say I really enjoyed the movie, I thought the story was well told and made you think about just how cruel some humans treat animals, like bulls. This was also a good opportunity to explain to my son why being cruel to animals is wrong and unacceptable in a way in which he could relate to what he had seen in the film. In addition to the main message of the film, the movie had lots of funny scenes and a nice ending to boot. All in all I am glad I took the family to see it.

Absurd plot but surprisingly entertaining
5 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Well what can I say except, the plot of zoo is ridiculous, but for some reason I find it enjoyable to watch. The plot is silly with more holes than swiss cheese. However, the CGI is decent, the acting is not too bad, the action is decent also and you get too see almost every city on Earth, as they seem to do a LOT of traveling. It's definitely worth a watch, I mean it's not going to win any awards (I think) but it will keep you entertained, just as long as you don't take it too seriously.

I really enjoyed watching it
25 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Well I just watched this on Netflix and I have to say I was surprised at how good it was and how much I enjoyed watching it. The acting is good, the CGI was decent, the plot was good and the characters were likable (the good guys anyway). It's just a shame that it was dropped after one season, because it would have been interesting to see how the second season developed. When you look at some of the rubbish that gets made now for multiple seasons it does make you wonder how decent series like this get dropped. If it was money, then I am sure that a similar production could have been made with a smaller budget. Anyway, I hope someone picks this concept up again in the future and gives the story a finish it deserves, either as a TV movie or another season.

Star Trek: Discovery: Choose Your Pain (2017)
Season 1, Episode 5
This is not star trek
16 October 2017
They said the word f*ck ! This is not star trek, it's some mashed up version of multiple sci-fi series and non sci-fi series, with added gore and bad language. It really is depressing watching the star trek brand being trashed by this alternative trek reality these writers have created.

Too many wtf moments
9 October 2017
Lazy writing for the plot of Discovery. There are simply too many WTF moments when I watch this. Why would Landry do what she did ? Could someone in her position really be that thick ? Are the writers really this bad that they treat the viewers as if they are idiots. Seriously this is terrible sci-fi writing, though the CGI is decent, it is wasted on the poor writing and plot.

Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024)
2/10
Boring and irritating
25 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Well I finished watching the Battle star Galactica reboot for the second time last week, which is an excellent well written and acted sci-fi series; so I thought I would try this new series of Star trek, which I now know is not an excellent well written and acted sci-fi series. In fact I feel like I wasted 2 hours of my life.

I like star trek, I loved Enterprise and had high expectations for Discovery, but it failed on so many levels. First of all the character Michael Burnham is irritating and completely unbelievable. I mean in the first episode she had deadly exposure to radiation and within 10 minutes she was rescued from space, walked out from her treatment for an urgent talk with the captain and then went back to continue her treatment and she was cured 5 minutes later looking 100% fit and healthy. Then in episode two she was exposed to the vacuum of space and did not have one ill effect from it at all, again 100% fit and healthy. Not to mention her mutiny and somehow being able to communicate vast distances through space via her mind. Lastly, her attitude and personality is really irritating, and she is not a very likable character.

Some other gripes include the Klingon's, they looked like they got their costumes and props from Stargate. And the light beacon to alert all other Klingon's, WT? last I checked the speed of light is constant and would take thousands of light years to reach every part of a galaxy. Apparently not in Startrek Discovery, where all the Klingon's appeared about 5 minutes after the light started shining. The sound in space, also irritates me, I can only think of Firefly, where they actually got the science of this right in a sci-fi series.

Also a minor point but Discovery is supposed to be set before Kirk, yet the technology is far superior than anything Kirk had. I could go on about the acting but I stopped caring after the first episode when the character Michael Burnham just made me say WT? on too many occasions. That stupid 'I'm so serious look' that she permanently has is also very irritating.

It may get better, but I doubt I will stick around to watch it after the mess first two episodes were.

Simply gripping and brilliant
20 April 2017
What can I say, this is by far the best sci-fi series currently on TV. The special effects, plot and acting are superb. Season two has not disappointed, I am really looking forward to the season finale. p.s I like physics so would have gave it a 10 out of 10 if there was no sound effect in the vacuum of space (like in reality), apart from that and a few more errors, it is done really well.

A great rollacoaster of action and adventure
10 April 2017
Did not expect much when I went to see it, but wow ! this movie really blew me away, I was on the edge of my seat all the way through. The monsters were great, Kong was great, CGI was great, pace and action was great, acting was great, plot great. What more can I say except, go watch it if you like action/adventure movies.

Really good sci-fi
7 December 2016
Well having binge watched enterprise on netflix, I have to say I am impressed. This was the first star trek series I have really followed in full, and I was left wanting more. Although the plots were a but sketchy in the first two seasons the acting was always good and solid, season 3 was great in that it was dedicated to one story line and the story was great. Again the acting was top notch. Finally, season 4 was a mixture of various different plots, with each one being interesting and solidly acted. All in all I was a bit disappointed that it ended after season 4. Having seen the number of seasons that other star trek series have had as well as series like stargate, I think enterprise deserved another season at least. Anyway, hopefully it will be made some time in the future, Netflix are you listening ? If so please keep the same cast of actors if possible, it just would not be the same with them.

Morning Joe (2007– )

If you like news with facts then avoid this show
8 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say I've been watching the primary/election coverage since last summer and the show gets worse and worse. Joe and Mika constantly get basic facts wrong, they really should hire decent researchers as the ones they have now are terrible. Also the majority of their analysts and news come from two publications and these are the Washington Post and the New York Times. Both publications are in my opinion biased and not objective in their journalism, therefore, using these as your main contributors seriously lessons your credibility as a news show. Lastly they have a complete inability to hold the people they interview to account with tough questions, in fact they clearly love Donald Trump and don't really hide this admiration.

There are better shows that are more factual and accurate in their analysis, especially the young turks on youtube which I find much more truthful and accurate than Morning Joe or any other main stream media show I have seen in recent years.

Simply Brilliant
29 October 2015
I should start off by saying that I used to read the Asterix books when I was a child so I really like these stories. Anyway, I watched the newest English version of the Mansion of the Gods movie and have to say it is just as good as the book. The animation was good, the story and plot stayed true to the book and moreover, my three year old son loved it as well, so I think we have a new Asterix fan. If you have not read any of the books and you like the movie then please read the books as I think you will love them, regardless of your age. I just hope that they make more films of this standard which stay true to the books. All in all a great film that I will watch more than once without a doubt.

Really good, and enjoyable, highly recommend it
27 September 2015
After reading the initial reviews of this movie I thought it might be a bit of a turkey. However, I like these type of movies so I thought I would give it 15-20 minutes and see how it goes. Happily, it went well, I was hooked on the storyline and the acting. Clive Owen was fantastic as he usually is in these type of roles, Morgan Freeman, again one of his better movies, and the supporting cast all very well acted. The CGI was good but plot and acting outshone it, which is a really good thing in my opinion. Anyway, I really do recommend this film to those people who like this genre. So please do not listen to the negative reviews to much, watch it for 15 minutes and then decide for yourself if it's for you.

Terrible remake give it a miss
26 August 2015
The acting was terrible, the plot was terrible, the special effects were decent but not enough to save the film from the really poor script, plot and acting. Also the product placement in the film is embarrassing, I actually cringed each time I seen a product froze in the middle of the screen for what seemed like minutes. The original was ten times better, Chris Pratt could learn how to act if he watched the original and took notes on how good actors like Sam Neill and Geoff Goldblum perform. Not once in the film did I feel any tension or excitement, in fact I felt like falling asleep it was that boring. Please save your money and just watch the original again if you want to watch a dinosaur movie. I'm giving it a 4 because the special effects were decent, the rest of it was 1 at best.

Way to much violence and gore
1 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Kingsman the secret service was a pretty standard action/spy movie that had way to much violence and gore. The plot was predictable and absurd to say the least and seemed to be mostly parodying other spy films, but with an excess of pointless violence, particularly the church scene, which emphasized how the violence was used to try and make up for the terrible plot. The use of excessive violence starts with the opening 10 minutes showing a man being sliced in half and not to mention the umpteen head shots shown in slow motion throughout the film. It all became really tiresome and made me want to stop watching to be honest. All in all a movie that will be remembered for pointless violence and nothing more. Hence, the reason it gets a 1 from me.

Stargate Universe (2009–2011)
6/10
Average at best
1 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
SG1 upto season 8 was excellent, then it started to get boring and one dimensional apart from a few good episodes. SG Atlantis, I watched the first episode, seen how terrible and unoriginal the wraith were and got so bored I stopped watching and instead went straight to SGU. So I have seen the first 15 episodes and have to say it's really slow and boring, but not as bad as SG Atlantis. I can see it is trying to copy Battle Star Galactica, but it falls way short. The characters are also really irritating, so much so that I don't really care if they make it home or not. The worst culprits being Everett Young, Ronald Greer, and Eli. The plots are also stupid, I mean the supposed Genius Eli, seems to be able to master multiple alien technologies within a matter of weeks; in one case 15 minutes to learn and read a new alien language and computer interface. There are limits to what the viewer is willing to accept as possible, and that is a massive fail in my book.

All in all not up to scratch when compared to SG1.
