King Arthur (2004)
sheer nonsense
25 August 2004
Don't expect a film about the historic Arthur, propably a military commander who fought for his people and the remains of Roman civilization in Britain. This movie is sheer nonsense, a Hollywood-style sandals movie about someone called Arthur who pretends to be a knight fighting for Rome's glory. I don't mind calling the Picts Celts (which tey were NOT), but if you consider the historic facts as known today the plot ist ludicrous: As a Saxon, would you sail from Germany to Schottland and attack the Hadrian's Wall in order to plunder England? That's a long and bloody way round if you're heading for London. Dialogue? Well, there is much talking about Rome's Glory and its failings and it's treachery, but nothing of importance. In fact, you won't learn anything about the character's motivations. Action? Plenty of undistinguished fighting. Keira Knighley is the only reason to watch this movie.
