Blackout (IV) (2008)

Much better than expected
14 January 2009
Such a low rating on IMDb! I don't write many reviews but feel compelled to write a short one (if IMDb allowed me to) to redress the balance. Blackout was one of the best movies I've seen in the past 6 months. The best thing about the movie is that you don't know what's going to happen next - unlike the rubbish, yawn inducing "thriller" Lakeview Terrace. It is violent & disturbing in parts - especially against women so wouldn't recommend it as a date movie. All the actors were good with the protagonist being particularly menacing! It's not laden with special effects - it doesn't need to be. It's a thriller, not a horror but unlike some movies is thrilling.

Team America had better acting!
3 February 2008
Saw the trailer for this at Christmas & it looked fantastic.

Tuned in last night to see a girl being chased by a rubber shark fin and rescued at the last moment, (yawn) and a shark/monster autopsy - similar to Jaws but without the blood & more foam.

Oh my god, the "acting" was rubbish, clichéd & unconvincing, spouted by a completely disjointed group of characters who we are meant to believe are working as a team. The cast of Neighbours would do a much better job! I switched off after 20 minutes. Only good for young kids or those that have had a full lobotomy.

It gets a 1/10 as for being filmed in London.

Boring, predictable & partonising
5 September 2004
If you enjoy watching gung ho American soldiers rescue wide eyed Africans who spend most of their time close to or in tears you'll enjoy this movie.

Otherwise please don't waste your time. It does have a few reasonable action scenes & has a sort of message albeit a ridiculously contrived & unbelievable one.

It's not a feel good movie & the 'action' is fairly brutal but VERY predictable.

I would imagine it being offensive to both Americans & Nigerians.

Avoid!
