One Piece (2023)
I couldn't stand the Anime
This is amazing.
I really hated the anime. And never really got far. Because the whole cutesy overly enthusiastic vibe is just too much of a trope and I never thought it worked in anime. Ones accompanied by some really dark existential crisis kind of stuff.
In life action, though, The trope works really well The absurdity of it all in combination with a great adaptation of the art style.
I don't understand how the actors don't come over as bad actors with how overly theatrical everything is. Somehow this just makes everything better.
I normally skip allot because people like to waste time with letting shots linger on for 0 reason, the editing here feels unreadably snappy and every second of footage feels like takes part in telling a story.
The only thing that I didn't like is the matte painted facades in the opening shot.
Ahsoka (2023)
Not enough time spend on dialogue
I understand that the writers were rushed to make dialogue. As is evident, my circumstances and actions literally being stated.
To make up for that shortage of time, the actors should take these literal statements and turn them into social actions. That make aparent what is happening. And being helped to do this properly by the director.
I don't know exactly who could have solved this without making anyone spend more time on the problem, im sure someone could have.
Main storyline and plots are really great though.
And all the world building ECTS is excellent as always.
Tldr: The writing and/or Direction and/or acting is bad. Main plot is great.
Willow (2022)
a great way to home in on a style lost to time
It does do a verry good job at creating a certain feeling that has been completely gone in the cinematic world for a long time.
I find that in some scenes the color grading is done very well and creates that 70's 80's vibe.
I would prefer them taking the shots that were neutrally graded and add more of the artifacts that they use in the shots with a green environment forest non dreaming environment.
The acting is a bit hard to judge as it seems they are trying to use a certain theatricality that seems a bit lost on the younger actors.
I normally despise this theatricality, but it does fit the general atmosphere very well. If the younger actors hone in on the same style of theatricality, that would be great for the series, but probably not so much their acting skills.
The story is exactly the amount of b it needs to b. And is in fact one of the strengths of the series. This is show is probably oriented at ages 3-17
With parents that don't go crying at the slightest hint of profanity. Which is another +
Andor: Aldhani (2022)
An epic portrayel of rebelion in a grim universe
The episodes has great pacing.
It sets the stage with great ambiance.
You can feel everyone's struggles.
The mood oozes out of the screen.
I get strong black and white film vibes in a good way.
Everything that passes on Coruscant really hits the nail on the head. I get strong foundation vibes wich is a good thing to draw inspiration from to portray the capital. (it more acuratly represents the vibe from the book then the apple series)
The mood/ attitude of the people in the camp switching felt a little rushed but realistically they would have to get on board quickly so It's a hard thing to portray.
The inconsistencies in film grain were a bit of putting, but that is an incredibly small detail.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 13: The Jedi (2020)
Getting less and less Epick.
Story wise it seems to be going quite nicely.
There where obv corners cut in the scenery.
Why do 2 trees that stand next to each other and take up a large chunk of the screen use the exact same brach or shape of branch.
Im sure it could handle a couple of more polys and maging a treebranch generator is not allot of work.
There were some nice leaves blowing away when the airship takes off.
I miss the days of good vfx. since the ice spiders it all sortof went downhill.
Transcendence (2014)
Great acting, great story, Many layers
This movie is about a choice we'll probably have to make one day. It Will sway most convictions from left to right and back and then leave you thinking. Its science-fiction done right not just blasting aliens and cool Gismo's. Themes like privacy and social/emotional Independence are laced thru out the movie.
All acting is real and not persona acting which is rare now a days. And it's amusing to see real actors do real acting for a change. only Morgan Freeman was explaining to much in a fake manner again.
I'd like to dedicate this last line to bashing other sci-fi movies. That lack in depth and layers. Another reviewer compared this movie to inception, i don't know why because inception is a movie about layers but revolved showing events without meaning. and leaving the audience baffeld . Another low rated sci fy movie i like is branded.
