A Different World: Three Girls Three (1988)
Love Overboard
Three Girls Three was my favorite A Different World episode. When Whitley(Jasmine Guy)and Jalessa(Dawnn Lewis) tried to enter in a songwriter contest for Knight's concert. Whitley and Jalessa added another girl into their songwriting group but ended up being as a disaster. The funny part of the whole show was when the girl tried to sing the song operatically instead their way. She tried to correct Whitley and Jalessa's diction and grammar and they find her annoying. The girl turned out to be spotlight hungry singer (she did not sound operatically at all) and stole Whitley and Jalessa's song for herself. Then the girl won the contest prize with another group. Whitley and Jalessa are very disappointed after the contest and had to put the contest behind them. At the end of the show, it showed Whitley and Jalessa singing with Gladys Knight, they sung an amazing song called Love Overboard, it had that 80's r&b/pop beat.I love Gladys Knight's song "Love Overboard", she has wonderful singing voice. Their performance and choreography was great. The scene had looked almost same as the one they used in the movie Dreamgirls. Also, Dwayne (Kadeem Hardison) is trying to get tickets but Ron(Darryl M. Bell)got him stuck as lighting director in the concert.Since Dwayne didn't want to do the job, so his friend Freddie(Cree Summers)offered him an extra ticket she had.
Port of New York (1949)
Yul Brynner with his natural hair !
I thought this short film was good for a 1940ish B- movie film. It's about an opium smuggling in New York in the 1940's. The sinister opium dealer Paul Vicola played by Yul Brynner was excellent. Brynner's character in the film was the only interesting character but there is also Scott Brady 's character as the agent who try to catch Brynner's character. Vicola is so evil but suave, since Brynner had played evil roles throughout his movie career this is even the evilest role he had ever played. Also, Brynner's character Paul kills his girlfriend Toni. My favorite lines in the film :
First scene when Toni tries to escape from Paul
Toni: I went to station to my get my ticket
Paul: (looking through Toni's purse) And you lost your ticket on the way home...Toni, where you planning on going?
Toni: Near the west coast, then travel whenever place I can get.
Paul:(angrily) You are most ungrateful, Toni(pulling down the blinds and moves closer) most ungrateful.
Second scene when Paul kills Toni
Paul: You are a frightened woman, you're nervous and a lie. Toni: What do you mean, Paul?
Paul: You are bad risk, Toni. A very risk! (grabs his handkerchief to smother Toni) (smother Toni until there's no life in her)
Paul: Die you, bitch!
What really amazed me in this film was Yul Brynner with his natural hair! If you want see Brynner before his shaved dome then this is the movie for you.
The King and I (1956)
This is definitely a Yul Brynner 's movie !
Even though this is my most #1 favorite movie in the world. I love it from start to finish. Everything is flawless (the cinematography is magnificent and colorful). The entire cast and the costumes was fantastic. But as a woman, why we women are so attach to this movie? because of Yul Brynner's sexy body physique and drop dead gorgeous looks! He just has a body of a God ! I had a total crush on him even when I was a child. Even his costars Deborah Kerr and Rita Moreno says that he was so sexy! There so many scenes when Yul just parted his shirt and shows his sexy muscular abs and topless scene as well when he almost whips Tuptim. After Yul took his top off for the whip scene I just heard a choir singing Hallelujah! in my ears . Every time when he shows his body it makes you go back and rewind. He is just so very drop dead gorgeous! He has gorgeous brown eyes that are so hypnotic and seductive, you could not turn away. He deserve every bit of that Oscar. Whoever plan those scene must have been a genius ! If I was one those actresses or leading lady like Deborah Kerr in "The King and I" or Anne Baxter on "The Ten Commandments" with Yul as my leading man I would consider myself as the most luckiest woman in the world! Yul is very talented actor with lots of charisma, poise, sex appeal, wonderful body language, drop dead gorgeous looks, the sexy but great body physique and great presence. His death scene as The King always bring me to tears. Mr. Brynner is known to be the most sexiest actor both on Hollywood screen and Broadway history. This guy is definitely a true mega star! It was Yul's body that made the show!!! (and that is so very true) A Yul Brynner fan forever...
The Journey (1959)
I Luv Brynner !
I really enjoy this movie. The first time it was on Turner Classic Movies. All the actors did very well but Brynner steals the show again like always ( he is so sexy!).This is one of the movie that you do see Brynner's emotions. Actually this movie this is the first I ever seen him laugh because he plays very strong, larger-than-life and serious roles in other movies. In this movie you see both a masculine, tough and sensitive side of Brynner .Brynner seems to be a "ladies'man" in this movie. That is amazing how Brynner eats the glass cup and speaks in his Russian tongue it drives me crazy in love. I don't understand when both Brynner and Kerr ( they both have very good chemistry) stars in a movie together and then Brynner always die at the end it kind of reminds you "The King and I" in a way.
