Lark Rise to Candleford (2008–2011)
10/10
My One Weakness
2 March 2008
After Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre and this winter's Cranford, I thought that the BBC couldn't do any better: that it had reached its peak. Boy, was I wrong. I was apprehensive about watching Lark Rise because of this, but those doubt were removed immediately as I fell in love with all the characters, especially Julia Sawalha, who surpasses herself, obviously moving away from her most famous role as Lydia Bennett in Pride and Prejudice, and she does so delightfully!

The hamlet of Lark Rise is so sleepy, and yet just as enthralling as the 'modern' town of Candleford. All the little stories within each episode, as well as those expanding throughout the entire series, make it a joy to watch, and an awesome way to pass the evening and forget all of one's woes. In producing two enchanting series so close to one another, the BBC has certainly surpassed itself.

I prefer the original

Warning: Spoilers
Well, in its own way I would say that it was a good film: the whole audience was laughing, particularly during the desert island scene, and it created a great atmosphere, with unforgettable moments being discussed all the way home.

However, compared to the original, I would say that all the hype that built it up spoilt it. Also, the number of plot holes, such as Barbossa's miraculous return, kinda spoilt it, as did the infamous Swann/Sparrow kiss that we had been eagerly awaiting: I find that too many films nowadays resort to love affairs. Also, it was historically incorrect, which disappointed me: it was Van der Decken, not Davy Jones, who captained the cursed Flying Dutchman, which cannot go to any old place: it haunts the Cape of Good Hope, where the Captain swore that he would conquer or spend eternity trying, and can't go any old place as is suggested in the film.

All in all, I enjoyed laughing along with this film, but I found that the plot could have been researched more and patching up the holes that it created would have made it even more unforgettable.

North & South (2004)

Fantastic, wonderful, brilliant....

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this drama. It was extremely romantic - especially the ending! I feel that Daniela Denby-Ashe portrayed Margaret Hale very well - I can't think of a better character, and I feel the same about Richard Armitage and Thornton.

The ending brought tears to my eyes as both Miss Hale's and Mr Thornton's head shrunk a little and he humbled himself ending in an unforgettably romantic last scene.

After watching the film I read the book and, unlike many films/ series, this one was virtually the same and the book, which didn't spoil it. The only part that was different was the ending, but i cannot decide which one was the best or most romantic!

I'd definitely give this film 10/10!
