Scream (2022)
Fun, meta slasher that serving tremendous homage to the legacy
Such a fun experience watching this in cinema because it's giving the suspense and the thrill. Also the meta-ness and the story are very "now" without forgetting its core. Brings back the excitement from the first installment. Love it!
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
WW is on its own "realm"
WW is on its own "realm", a hopeful and positive and compassionate one. This sequel embodies that perfectly. The costume and hair/makeup department deserves credit for this one too, because the 80s era really lives on in this movie. Also Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal are surprisingly fit the role as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah and Max Lord respectively.
There were also some cheesy, eye-rolling moments in the movie but, during this trying times, I could take those and just suck it up and enjoy the blockbuster movie cinema experience.
Watch it in the cinema if possible (of course with health protocols and regulations applied) and it'll remind you of the wonderful times when we are all gather in a cinema to watch Summer blockbuster offering.
Charlie's Angels (2019)
Moderate Adaptation of Charlie's Angels
Probably I got too much expectation before watching it, but honestly the movie it's not that bad. Decent amount of fun, fight and flair.
The girls are absolutely gorgeous, especially K-Stew who's kinda stealing the show, and here's hoping to see more of Ella Balinska and Naomi Scott in the future. Somehow it felt lacking of something in the story area, although the twists were pretty unexpected albeit typical espionage flick. Too bad that the ending was anti-climactic.
But, I really appreciate the feminist touch and women empowerment, felt very current. Overall, watch it if you only want a light movie this weekend with your friends.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
DIsney goes Game of Thrones
Loving the departure from the boring first movie, because this one punched more actions (PG of course) better and with more lovely mythical creatures.
Great set designs, costumes, and cinematography albeit bit boring in the middle and finale.
Aquaman (2018)
DC heading in the right direction with Aquaman
Just saw it and I must say, that DC is finally getting it right this time with Aquaman. The visuals are stunning, loved the story, and of course, James Wan's showed his horror sensibility in some scenes which I appreciate.
The movie was funny (although with some cringe-worthy scenes), action packed and the Atlantis design was colorful and trippy in a good way. Too much CGIs on the underwater scenes with the actors, but hey, making movie about underwater civilization and people talking in the ocean are not easy, so I will cut him some slack.
Oh, and great casting choice too! And stay after animated credit title for the mid-credit scene.
Robin Hood (2018)
Robin Hood for millenials generation
Despite promising trailers, Robin Hood failed to give me a lasting impression. The only thing I remember after watching it was only the stylized slo-mo which was kinda cool, and few eye-rolling romantic moments (not in a good way). Oh, and the slight urge to learn how to use bow and arrow. The explosion and fire in some scenes looks fake.
Taron Egerton surely will get the heart of the younger audience while Jamie Dornan was bleh (although pretty cool accent in the movie). And I kinda think that Jamie Foxx needs more screentime.
Watch it if you have freetime or got nothing else to watch, you won't missed anything if you skipped it in the cinema.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
Potter fans would love it, but regular folks might find it boring
Saw it here when it opens in Indonesia on Wed, Nov 14th, 2018 with high hopes. Not entirely dissapointed but the duration was a tad bit long but, as someone who watched the entire Harry Potter series, I must say this story really captivating especially with the twist(s).
For anyone who is not following the series, it'll be quite boring for them with slow pace but I think the stunning visuals and amazing creatures would kinda makes up for it.
Still a worth watching though!
