CODA (2021)
A feast for the eyes and the ear!
This film really warms the heart. Its about following your dreams and looking back at those who have your back. Family love still gives the best support for you to reach the stars. Even though others think of them as incapable you realize that they have done much more than others.
The Sound of Music Live! (2013)
A different kind of remake
As far as I know this is a live television adaptation of the original stage musical and NOT the film version. I know a lot would not agree with how the show was made but who's to blame? The magnificent voices of the cast brings back memories on how the Von Trapp family became a sensation. Carrie may not have had the best of acting abilities but when she starts to sing the chemistry that defines her as Maria starts to appear. I don't think it would be fair to compare her with Julie Andrews but I do believe that she did better than any other Broadway actresses who played Maria on-stage.
I can only say to myself that they did cast the right people for a television show. To play on-stage would be a different thing.
Kudos to Carrie Underwood.
Angels in America (2003)
Magnificently Uncensored
I have read Tony Kushner's script of the original play and was really amazed at how he combines politics, social, religious, and medical issues into one moving story. I never realized that this would someday be immortalized by putting it into film. Nichols with the help of HBO did a fantastic job. It may not be the actual play itself but the entire content is there! You could totally follow the entire story if you actually read the book. I think the question I raised in my mind was, would they be actually showing these scenes on National TV? I said to myself, "they wouldn't." I was wrong. Tony Kushner's play would never be without those...um...censored scenes. But I do think that audiences in this millennium have now opened their minds to such films which I'm sure would definitely love watching it over and over again without malice. The actors have indeed displayed professionalism in every scene that they did. No regrets if you watch this film. It's not just for homosexuals but for straight people as well.
