Maybe it's the cops, other network shows, or Shawn Ryan and Chiklis p'd off someone because the camera work is not as shaky as say Bourne Supremacy, that individuals can't follow the storyline. That is an idiotic argument against the show.
First and foremost the realistic aspect should not be mention considering that the show is based on The Rampart division and the police corruption from that division. David Mack is the DE facto basis of Vic Mackey who was involved with Suge Knight and worked with Blood gang members of that region, and many have him involved in the murder of Tupac Shukur on behalf of Suge. He was flashy and arrogant, and no doubt a rogue cop. The whole thing with Kern(Sticky Fingaz character) twist some of those facts in there. Mack and members from his team is in jail right now for bank robbery which was caught on tape.
I've heard people say that is vulgar, but just like with Deadwood, these people actually talk like this. Not to mention the 10 o'clock Tuesday slot for FX shows more mature HBO/Showtime style programming, so anyone saying anything about content and language is being naive and prudish.
From the writing and story lines to the fast pace chase scenes to the acting and guest appearance of Glenn Close, Anthony Anderson, and Forrest Whittaker, The Shield is exceptional, and besides 24 is as good as network television gets. It's like the only program that can compare to the great show that are seen on HBO programming.
