Twin Peaks: Zen, or the Skill to Catch a Killer (1990)
The ULTIMATE Twin Peaks episode...
This is the ultimate Twin Peaks episodes, no doubt about it. This episode contain's the "Cooper & the midget dream sequence", which is really THE scene that everyone still remembers who watched the series back in the 90s, one of the most intense television ever. It's also a fact that the David Lynch episodes where the best. (and the most creepy)
Here the series just gets "weird" for the first time. This really surprised many viewers who up to this point thought they were watching only a murder mystery. Here it gets surrealistic. It's brilliant how Lynch introduced his mind to the masses with twin peaks.
The X Files: The End (1998)
The end for the X-files indeed....
Yes it went on for another 4 seasons, BUT....
After this episode, the X-files wouldn't be the same. Season 5 ended, the production moved from Vancouver to L.A. They made X-files fight the future, and the movie ruined a lot for me, (too dumbed down for a mass audience) but the move to L.A. was the worst they could do. Enjoy this episode, for it is the last X-files with that dark tone you love. (L.A. was just too sunny) After this the comedy eps would get overhand and every season would just get more and more pathetic (with exception of the Doggett MOTW's in the first half of Season 8 which i really liked)
Seasons 1,2 marked the brilliant start of the series, Seasons 3,4 were the climax, Season 5 marked the last true X-files season, Season 6,7 were way too light, Season 8 started great, but they ruined it and with Season 9... X-files died a horrible death.
The X Files: Nothing Important Happened Today (2001)
Season 9 should have never happened...
...So Mulder just left. That's the explanation for Mulder not being in in Season 9. That's all we get. Season 9 couldn't have started worse. They should have ended it after Season 8. Season 9 may had one or two episodes to check out, but believe me folks, most eps this season were TERRIBLE. Even the talented writers like Vince Gilligan failed to bring anything good this last season. I haven't been as excited as i was during the Vancouver years (S1-S5) but at least every season after S5 still contained some classic standalone eps. Now the mythology eps weren't that interesting anymore after S5, but it just gets ridiculous here. Mutant water supplies???? I mean come on!!! Supersoldiers??? The worst idea ever???!!!
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
A Great Movie that is Anti-Hollywood and Hilarious!
Okay, it took me two viewings to fully appreciate this movie. The first time it was like "What the hell did I just watch, what was the story about anyway?" I had mixed feelings. I watched it again, and then I got it! You see, I was expecting a MOVIE like other MOVIES. But that's not what this is! For an instance, all the characters aren't heroes. No, they're the opposite! Every character is a total loser. Two brothers who are total nerds, an uncle who lost touch of reality and lives in 1982, and a Mexican zombie. I like the fact that they didn't pick actors just for their looks, none of the lead actors would ever win a beauty contest. I can't help it but notice this movie has the feeling of an 80s teen comedy, they use A LOT of 80s music in it as well.
Anyway see it for yourself, see it twice to fully get the message!
Meet the Fockers (2004)
Finally a Sequel that's better than the first!
Very, VERY funny movie. WAY better than the first. I saw "Meet the parents" 5 years ago when it came out, i can't remember me laughing this hard when that movie came out. Meet the Fockers is just hilarious, Mainly because the interaction between Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman & Barbara Streisand. They're such great actors! Dustin Hoffman truly steals the show with his great acting, unlike Ben Stiller who plays the same guy in every movie. (but it works for me)
Anyway, I can't remember that IMDb required a minimum of 10 lines per comment before, it must be new or something. So I'll just tell ya that you have to go and see Meet the Fockers, and laugh your ass of yourself.
The Passion of the Christ (2004)
almost 2 hours of torture....yuck!
This movie was disturbing... VERY disturbing. It should have been called "The Torture of the Christ"
This really is all the movie offers:
**POSSIBLE SPOILER**
Jesus gets arrested...and beaten. Jesus is interrogated by the Jews...and beaten again. Jesus is taken to the Romans, and Severely TORTURED. Jesus is held prison by the Romans and gets abused by roman guards. Jesus has to carry the cross, and beaten kicked and spat upon. Jesus gets nailed to the cross...
**END OF SPOILER**
I can imagine Americans leaving the theater saying "oh my god Jesus suffered so tremendously for our sins, I'm gonna be GOOD Christian from now on". all i said after this movie was "Well that were the worst two hours in my entire life".
The only good thing this movie brought was the excellent South Park spoof "The passion of the Jew".
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Best of 2004...
2004 is a year filled with over the top sequels and downright crappy movies. there are a few exceptions, and then there is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
You have to see it to believe it. It is a roller-coaster ride from the beginning till the end. It shows that true love doesn't die, not even if you erase your loved one from your memory.
This is Jim Carrey's "Leaving Las Vegas". He managed to refrain from pulling his trademark weird faces and behaviour. Only once in the kitchen scene can he be himself for a little while. The script is what you expect from Charlie Kaufman. A little surrealistic, tender and funny. The other actors shine as well. Kate Winslett has never looked this beautiful.
I wish I'd meet a girl like Clementine....
