Midnight Diner (2009–2014)
10/10
Why is my question, i have watched three times over and each with total appreciation!
5 September 2019
I just have no language to communication the story - at all. It is drab, dry and surface deep. Well that would be it from one point of view.

For me though, i just want to say, i was broken hearted when i found out there was no more seasons - more than an other show ever!

I can't for the life of me say why.

Why would i say that, well i felt this series drum up all the naive childish experience and the craving i once had to learn how to be a human .... and crystallized it in a single series.

I can't say it is a moral endeavour but for me it was and well, better than anything else a came across in the past 20+ years. In the scope it was also revealing and heart warming. I will watch this series again more than any other over the rest of my life.

I can't speak to the potential audience in this review because there is just so many points of view, what i can do though is speak to the creators:

SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO thank you from the bottom of my heart, this is beyond magic and had enriched my soul beyond measure. i use this series as healing..... I use it and i want you all to know that it would not be magical if the people involved were not contributors to the magic. This is one of a kind! SO SO SO SO SO SO thank you very much!!!

For me it's an honest 6 but 7 cause i like sci-fi

It's pretty much scifi channel acting quality. As it progresses though into later episodes the actors get better.

Bad acting creates that sentiment to just dislike which is why i dropped a bunch of stars on this.... But it does keep improving.

Filming and cgi is pretty good. Acting not great but improves. Story is not bad actually and also improves and 'becomes' knitted together better over time.

I got to ep 6 for me before i actually became properly engaged like some other awesome shows that hooked me at ep1.

I would recommend this regardless of rating - just watch it - it is different and i do think it is strung together well and improves. I am more anchored to cinematography - for me this is nice and does improved.

Give it a go - it's not a 9+ star but sometimes a 6-7 is someone telling you they have seen better but give it a go.

Even though that is my conclusion ... this show has plagued my mind for some time since watching - and that's something i appreciate.

Why not 10'10
28 October 2018
This for me was so unbelievably helpful.

I was hooked for step one to step 10 and i'm not a donkey moron tapping into rubbish content.

The main actor - i don't know the guy but 10 min in loved it - so god damned insecure it was enriching and so close to home. ..... So human.

Find it all just amazing. Obviously not for everyone but.... but those who it is for.... solid gold - best thing since .... ever. My review will be poor - not analytical - not insightful - just lost for word how this made me feel. This is my 20 year vid - i have see many things and of a few and more - top of my list. I am sorry i didn't speak to the flick but for this gem, i hope i spoke the the magic it gave me. I can only hope this magic is experienced by you.

From the simple this have accomplished the rich

Straight off the bat to let you know who is reviewing... i love JCVD movies. Shallow and profound are the flix i like. I don't know why i have such taste for such drab.... Honesty and clarity is a great starting point. I have fallen in love with this show - why? i don't know. But here's the miracle. It has nothing to do with any of the movies i have loved in the past. This breaks all the films of my shallow judgements and is not something i would think i would ever appreciate.

Without understanding why, i love this show. It was so refreshing it is a show i will remember for the rest of my life. if it is not your type of flick im sure u will forget it - however if u like it you will love it. Last season was 2016 so i assume no more seasons - i was emotional affected but this realisation.

Please watch first season.... watch it honestly (not in front of your iphone).

It is a treasure in a world of limiting values.

We need more of this.

The reviews were more of a shock!
2 September 2017
I was blown away by how many people found this confusing, incomplete and not executed well!

It's a very simple story and told in a very simple way (not all over the place!). It excels in its cinematography and carries through from beginning to end in typical Asian thriller/horror style. If anything i would say it was more 'cookie- cutter' of many other films.

It isn't a deep philosophical movie with riveting plot line and award winning dialog, the acting wasn't contrived and out of place, all cast fit their roles well.

If you follow the dialog the story is knitted together quite well. Having said that, it is a 'simple horror flick' layered on top of Japanese spirit myth, can't understand why it got such a low rating.

Rich, Simple, Substance

Warning: Spoilers
For me this show touches a nerve, i grew up with computers from the 80s, XTs, ATs 286 etc etc. My dad worked in a computer company and i spent a lot of time there. In that time of learning coding, playing games, surrounded in computers,

I experienced another dimension of early computing history I could never put into words. This show painted my past in a rich and spectacular texture rich experience that allowed me to vastly expand a past that could never be touched. Loved this show. Acting is uncontrived, simple and human. I've actually met ever single character in real life which made me think the director also had a close personal with growing up in the computer industry. Again a true sense of genuine and rich experience can be found here, if it doesn't touch you, it's not because of acting, directing, script etc, it's a lifestyle choice and an experience you don't resonate with.

For me, I just want to thank the creators of this show, thank you very much you have enriched my life and colouring in my past, thank you.
