The first episodes were fairly dark yet compelling. The story was original and you are drawn into Beths world. I felt there was hope for the character yet didn't expect the sugary ending that transpired. The edge seemed to disappear in the final episode or two. Jolene was awkwardly reintroduced and had changed so much from her original character she was unrecognisable. It was too easy and contrived to have all the men in her life just suddenly band together to help her. Benny just picks up the phone - no discussion about motive or the issues that had driven them apart. Similarly Townes just appears in Moscow and they hug like old friends. Completely unbelievable. She'd met him a couple of times! It's like a fairy godmother waved a magic wand so the princess could be saved by the handsome knights, and live happily ever after!
