The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
You think these shows are just fiction???
There is a troubling trend over the last few years, where TV shows in particular are becoming more and more disturbing, chilling and predictive.
Is this mere coincidence? I think not. As we have seen from the world we are now living in in 2020, an authoritarian world is just around the corner.
These shows in my opinion are telling us broadly what world awaits us all. Yet again rouge elements are at work, using Terrorism to take control of a world. A theme that is used over and over again.
This show as is a masterclass in writing, acting, casting, sound design and pacing.
I have nearly cried watching this on more than one occasion.
It combines the terror a of a WWII holocaust movie, blended with a 1984 style dread and paranoia. All in all this is not a world anyone would want to live in
Whilst I do really admire the quality of this show, why are we constantly getting force fed this stuff as entertainment?
Because they use TV and Film along with books to communicate to us about what they are planning for us all. And for this reason this show is a warning not entertainment.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
it never had a chance after Last Jedi
To be honest I was going to find it hard to not be biased against this film because I just didn't cared about the characters created by JJ in The Force Awakens and the terrible mess to clean up after Rian Johnson pissed all over the story JJ created.
I have always felt that great stories have to be built around characters you can relate to and you care about and with non of the new breed resembling our classic heroes from the original trilogy, this next generation of resistance and First Order baddies were just not likeable enough to generate any excitement or feelings at all.
The big failings of 7 & 8 were repeated yet again in this final instalment which choose yet more ridiculous plotting, dull dialogue and uninspiring set pieces patched together in a desperate buy failed attempt at damage control.
Yet again the wonderful heroes and arch enemies from the original trilogy get poor treatment, by giving them nothing to do other than patch up the gaping holes in the story as a consequence of Rian Johnson's awful Last Jedi.
New characters introduced are just as throw away as those created in the previous two instalments, at least offering some consistency there
In a nutshell this at least helps us draw a line under this disrespect Disney excuse for film making.
Rogue One showed us all how well Star Wars can be, and even Solo had many good ideas to work with because at least they new how to respect the universe that had already been created.
Let's hope the fan backlash will make Disney realise that you must have the right people running the show just like Jon Favreau & Dave Filoni to ensure a bright future.
