Obliterated (2023)
2/10
Awful in every way.
3 December 2023
There's nothing good about this.

Bad, overused tropes. Bad writing. Corny cliche and annoying characters you instantly dislike. Bad dialogue. Bad technology ideas. Boring cliche plot lines.

Not even worth writing more of a review for. But I need find more characters for the review to be long enough.

Hmmmm what else. Terrible one liners. Cheesy acting. No depth. No grit. No sense of how people actually interact.

This is the worst show I have ever seen in my entire life. I think whoever created this has either never been out of their mom's basement and had to imagine what life is like, or they're in their 60s and tried to combine Miami Vice with Baywatch, but in a really bad way.

Tetris (2023)

The worst movie about the 80s ever made.
9 April 2023
I don't even know where to start.

This movie was BAD, in more ways than one.

Setting aside the anachronisms, like showing modern furniture like powered, stand-up desks, and other furniture that was clearly from post 2015, we get to the acting, and the feel of the movie.

Acting: TERRIBLE, corny, and just plain bad in places Dialogue: Brutal. Even cornier than the acting.

Score: Awful. Like it's trying to make up for how bad the movie is.

Characters: 1 dimensional obvious stereotypes, with zero nuance.

The entire feel of the movie is off. It's not sure if it is serious, documentary, or comedy. It does a terrible job of trying to be all three.

It's as if the person who directed it had no clue what life was like in the 80s, how it felt to live in this time, or how to translate the feeling of that period to film.

The movie is as cringe as a bad knock-knock joke.

A caricature of a stereotype of a shadow of reality.

Great concept, has potential, but the dialog is atrocious
31 January 2023
The plot is decent. The production value, settings, and effects are great. The settings dark, and appropriate. The acting mostly decent. The suspense is great.

It's almost enough to save this series from the horrible dialog.

I really want to love this show, but the dialogue is just so awful and cringe at times. The emotions expressed are unearned, the tension between the characters is unearned. These people barely know each other, but the dialog is written as though these "teens" have been working together for a couple years. Some of the lines are just bad writing.

The dialogue isn't always awful, but when it hits wrong ( which is often enough) you're finding yourself audibly groaning at these hollow, artificial feeling characters, with their ridiculously baseless motivations. There is no passage of time between episodes to justify this whole "I'll die for you!" type dialogue that starts immediately.

The show desperately need better writing and more authentic character development. If you could couple this concept with the level of character development and dialogue of say Harry Potter, this would be one of the most amazing young adult series.

The White Lotus (2021–2025)

A masterpiece
30 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved every minute of season 2.

Each character is complex - being both likeable and detestable in their own way. It's fun trying to find all the symbology and foreshadowing throughout, some of it obvious and some of it not so obvious. It keeps you watching for every detail. Character interactions range from interesting to downright sinister. Amazing visual settings and great visual direction. The score is erie and mesmerizing. Pacing is good and it has suspense aplenty!

Leo Woodall was one of my favourite actors in this. The way he was code-switched between his adorable, overly charming, fun loving character, to something darker and deeper, was totally psychotic. It felt like going from a sunny day on the beach, to instantly being dragged under the ocean at night by a shark. His character gave my chills!!! I can't wait to see him in more movies.

Theo James would make an excellent James Bond.

He has the looks, the body, the confidence, the charm, and I really wish shows and movies would stop forcing him to have an American accent. Making Theo have an American accent was the only thing I didn't like about White Lotus - which is such a small thing to pick out as a negative in the grand scheme of things. And really, I only mention it because his British accent makes that much more attractive.

I just want to put out into the world that Theo James should be the next James Bond.

I hate watch this series. I REALLY want to love it.

I really really really want to love this series.

But it's bad character dialog and writing leaves me wanting. The Kubrickesque drawn out shots are ok, but not as artfully done, and oftentimes you will sit there screaming "Get on with it!!'" Versus meeting mesmerized, So often it feels like artificial attempts to be artistic, while completely missing the mark.

There are some good actors in this series, but there also some seriously one-note, two-dimensional actors who aren't necessarily to blame. I blame the flat writing of the character dialog, the disjointed timeline, and the lack of interesting interactions to hold them together.

Annoying dialog, annoying character development, and plot points that skip around and skip forward in an ADHD fashion.

The aesthetic is amazing, albeit completely unrealistic. ( Nobody wants to live on a ship that only has blue lighting. Like come on, if you're going for realness, don't serve up cheesy dorm-room mood lighting that makes everyone look like a smurf.)

As a Sci-Fi fan I'm really disappointed, but it's like the only thing sci-fi to watch. The concept is amazing. The potential is TRULY amazing, but the bad plot development ruins this.

Ultimately the end result is this series is lacking depth and heart.

If you're going to do edgy, dirty, science fiction at least watch the reboot of Battlestar Galactic. THAT is how you do gritty sci-fi realness.

Pigs in Space but with real people
5 November 2019
Remember the Pigs In Space segment of the Muppet Show, where all of the most useless personalities were put on a ship in poorly written plot situations, and none of the characters had a single rational thought?

That's the whole show in a nutshell. Right down to Miss Piggy hauling off and decking somebody who disagrees with her, while they are in imminent danger. Hiiiyyyyaaaaah!

A great movie...
6 October 2004
I don't know the actors well, and only caught this film by accident. I thought it was very good. I never cry at movies, but this one choked me up at the end.

I disagree with somebody's comment about the mother and father's acting. I thought they were remarkably realistic. I have met people just like them!!!

And I didn't think Kevin Zeggers did that bad of a job.

The only person that I think was completely cast wrong was the "tough-guy" at the school. He looked a little too clean cut to be a bad boy. It was like watching Mr. Rogers trying to do a psycho role.

I gave it 8 stars. Not a block buster, but definitely worth a viewing.
