Dead Asleep (2021)
Worth a Watch
(spoilers)....
Pretty clear what took place here. She was leaving to go live with a boyfriend in another state for Christ sakes. The night before he's naked in her closet. He obv felt abandoned both women he was living with were about to leave to be with other men, he had a crap job, a drinking problem, his father did a murder suicide. He obviously snapped. Sad sad story.
Midnight in the Switchgrass (2021)
Bruce Willis - Legendary Fall From Grace
It's almost like the older guys like he and DeNiro get they just say F it & sign on to any POS film with $ attached. I cannot remember the last time I saw Willis in something that wasn't completely awful. It's gotten to the point where if Willis IS in something it's an auto pass. In other words the exact opposite of Denzel's projects. Which are almost always can't miss. Because he's actually selective.
What Lies Below (2020)
Ema Horvath Was Wasted In This
The last 10 mins soiled what was a very intriguing film and what I thought was a terrific performance by Horvath who is rather new to acting. The director didn't seem sure how to end this so he threw together some weird Hail Mary. Alien? Fish? Fish aliens? Had they just figured out an actual ending here this would've scored 2 full points higher.
Obsessed (2009)
Not As Bad As People Claim...
First of all, the hate this movie gets is over the top. It's not bad. Yes, it could've been a lot better with more character development, especially for Ali Larter's character, Lisa. Had the movie been 15- 20 minutes longer with an actual backstory on why she was as psychotic and deluded as she was - it would've been less panned by critics and moviegoers. Casting Beyonce as such a key character didn't help either considering she cant act even a little bit. She was terrible and forced with clichéd one-liners. A black actress in her place with some acting chops would've gone a long way.
Idris Elba and Ali Larter's interactions carry what is a pretty hollow script due to lack of character developing. Their scenes are easily the most enjoyable of the film.
There's also a very odd reference to a band named Crudo as a key talking point in a couple scenes which is peculiar considering they never even came into actual existence, yet Ali Larter's character somehow has a supposed full album of their work that she burned for Derek (Elba). No idea why they would choose a band that never even released anything and make us believe that these 2 random people both happen to be big fans of them. That was ridiculous.
All in all, the movie worked because Larter's character was psychotic enough to keep you interested and Idris Elba is good enough to make just about anything appealing.
Worth a watch. Ignore all the hate.
