This show locked me in after epis 1 and 2. Unfortunately, as the series wedges more "characters" into the plotline, the energy from the beginning slowly dissipates into an irksome bore. However, that may not be a problem for most, considering the Featured Review on this thread is a complaint at viewers for not having worked in a kitchen. And so, I think this show easily rises to the top of the pile that is TV today. Though 95% of that pile is unwatchable garbage.

My main gripes are with the characters. There are two characters. Carmy and Mikey. Considering the latter is dead and seen a grand total of two times, this is a major barrier to the continuity of the show.

Rich is probably next in line for the title of "character", but he appears to have been written by 5 different writers. In one episode he, for unknown reasons, drugs an entire party of kids with Prozac. And in another episode, we're supposed to bond with his character out of the love and care he displays for his 5-year-old daughter.

Sydney is a complete Mary Sue. 10 years ago, I probably wouldn't have believed a show with her character as a main one could even make it onto the silver screen. But I get it, everyone's afraid of writing actual women now. All we know about her is that she knows everything and takes care of her sick dad (I'm just guessing based on the medications cabinet and the CPAP machine). Her character is so unlikable that every 3 episodes the writers have to give her the same shmoozy line about how Carmy is literally a plum sauce god. It's not even that they have no time to develop her, they just chose not to. THere is a 4-minute scene in the finale, between her and Cake Boy, where literally nothing is said or advanced.

Other than that, Ibrahim is hilarious, and I don't know the names of the other characters they are so irrelevant.
