The Ref (1994)
Best Christmas Comedy Movie EVER!!
Everyone in the cast plays their roles perfectly. Denis Leary, one of my favorite actors, is awesome, and Glynis Johns is priceless as the mother. The relationship between the character of Murray and Denis Leary's character is wonderful and very believable. The son's "extracurricular activities" make an interesting subplot. He movie is hysterically funny, with a few tugs at the heartstrings. It's so easy to identify with such a totally dysfunctional family group. No matter how many times I've seen it, probably close to a dozen times, I still howl with laughter. I own the DVD and watch it every Christmas!
The Rookie: Double Trouble (2023)
Great show, great cast...WORST EPISODE!
The episodes where a documentary are being filmed generally aren't the show's best. This one was dumb beyond belief. Muddled plot, backwards chronology, half-hearted explanations...just dumb. The side plot with Sgt Grey and the painting was pretty absurd, then plunged even deeper into ridiculous territory with the shirtless painting the officers presented to Grey. Giving your boss a bad painting of him shirtless??? Who does that?? The whole episode was an embarrassment. This show is the main reason I subscribe to Hulu...I may reconsider that subscription if the rest of the season doesn't pick back up. No more documentaries, please!
SEAL Team: Nine Ten (2021)
A very well done gut punch
I usually read the summary/synopsis/intro before I watch an episode. Somehow I didn't do that with this episode, and apparently my brain wasn't in gear. I missed the significance of the episode title and wasn't quite sure what was going on, other than the obvious "origin story" of the characters. When it finally hit me, it left me choked up and sobbing. The writing, the acting, and everything were heartfelt and so very well done. In a show where every episode is good, this one is a standout, emotional and unforgettable as the events it commemorates. Thank you to the cast, the crew, the writers, and everyone involved in this episode.
Reacher (2022)
Alan Ritchman: Spot-on embodiment of Jack Reacher!
Wow. I'm only on Eposide Three, and I am sooo hooked! The casting of Alan Ritchman is genius. Unlike Tom Cruise in the Reacher movies, Ritchman fits the image of Reacher in my mind, based on having read multiple Lee Child books featuring Reacher. The rest of the show's cast, the scripts, and the cinematic vision all come together perfectly. I highly recommend this series.
