An Actor Messes With an Actual Writing Artist
22 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Too bad they let an actor with an ego and a room temperature IQ mess with a dramatic author. A mostly true crime story of terrible injustice to Osage indians in turn of the century Oklahoma is turned into a disjointed, impossible to follow mess that misses most of the actual crimes, from the thugs that did it to the crime boss that caused it. Sorry Leo, you aren't the writing genius you think you are. Just tell the dramatized true story as it was written. Take the part of the lawman that brought the killers down. Be the hero. The focus of the movie is moved to one of the killers instead of the lawmen that broughtl them down. Yes, the acting and staging is first rate but the movie is a mess.

So Close.....
28 January 2023
I rated it 7, would have been an 8 maybe 9 but too much ridiculous child angst. Worth a watch if you can get past the brats.

Brad Pitt does well and the female lead is ok but the kids absolutely distract with their constant whining.

The film gets going quickly and really grabs you. I also like that you can't get attached to anyone. That makes the suspense and action much more realistic.

It lives up to the title with it's scope, it really is a World War. The film starts with a suburban breakfast, zooms out to the world, then brings the focus to whether Brad Pitt can save the world. It could go either way....

Boring, Dumb and Depressing

Tom Berenger notwithstanding this movie is dark, dumb and depressing. Avoid at all costs.

Tried to like it, high production values but....

Started strong but the writers couldn't stop themselves from making it just another SWJ rant. Don't waste your time.

It's a Movie, not a comic book
6 November 2020
The low ratings about comparing the source material completely miss the point.

It's a movie, standing on it's own. If you want to read comic books, read them, leave movies to their own genre.

And as such, it is absolutely an astounding accomplishment. Very rich content with deep characters and a world class plot. Nit picking about a particular character or special effect completely misses the point. The movie is a towering work of art, all on it's own.

Fun To Hear Some of The Backstories...
7 June 2020
But the incredible, over the top, pop-psychoanalysis of themselves and the rest of us is a little off-putting. For a bunch of music players, they make themselves sound like they were the most important thing in the world instead of music players that people wanted to dance and get laid to.

60 Minutes Would Have Covered It
17 February 2020
Unfortunately this decent story would have made a 60-90 minute TV show. There are WAY too many lingering closeups, dragged out and unnecessary scenes.

Also, what's with the flash-forwards? They break the continuity without adding anything to the story. The future is actually dealt with later in the show!

A noble effort, but too long and not worth the time investment.
