Alibi (2008)
Very Funny. Like laughing out loud? Go see it.
Achmed Akkabi is the new Sacha Baron Cohen. With his funny expressions he is the star of this movie. Verbaan is great to watch as the waitress who happens to have a bad year. If you like the Eddie Murphy comedies, go see this Dutch film. My favorite scene: The one where Achmed watches a striptease dancer shoot ping pong balls... then she's about to use her next prop, and that is when he realizes what the banana he is holding is meant for.
The parachute drop is funny- just when you think he's safe after falling into a tree, the mad dogs come after him. If you want to impress your friends with movie buff taste, Alibi won't serve you right. If you want to laugh and remember what fun it was to see a good comedy, Alibi is great fun.
Voetbalvrouwen (2007)
Funny and thrilling look on soccer wives
If you like "Gooische Vrouwen" and "Desperate Housewives" you will love Voetbalvrouwen. The series is almost a spoof on the clichés of soccer wives: Blond, not too smart and complete shopaholics. This series delivers it all. Newcomer Renske goes from the province to Big City Amsterdam because her boyfriend will play for Champions league club Heros. She is faced with new morals when she meets three other soccer wives. It is hilarious when they have discussions on money, husbands and having a job on your own. The series looks glossy, no expenses were saved: big cars, huge homes, and soccer sequences that where shot in Utrecht Stadium. I liked it a lot because the show does not take itself too seriously. It is funny most the time and dramatic as well in its cliffhangers. Can't wait to see the next episode.
Ellis in Glamourland (2004)
Fun, fun, fun
Can't believe this has not been picked up internationally yet. Could be called HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE.
Good story, well crafted, and some hilarious jokes that come too close to the truth of the dating rules. Ever heard of the book THE RULES: HOW TO FIND A MAN AND GET HIM BEFORE THE ALTAR ? it looks like Joan Collins teaches from those rules. A must see for anyone over 35 and desperate to find the right husband. Linda de Mol delivers a decent performance (I never was a fan of her but do like her in this film) as a single mother desperate to give her child a better future. When her friends signs her up for a course "how to marry a rich man" she hates the idea at first, but when her ex-husband lets her down again by not paying for his son's soccer camp (the poor kid is left alone at the bus stop), she does sign up for the course. Joan Collins sees a next Cinderella in her. "good bone structure"...
ZOOP in Afrika (2005)
Fun Adventure
Eight kids go on an adventure to Africa. When their plane crashes in the jungle they have to finds ways to survive. The film is a roller-coaster ride aimed at kids aged 6 to 14, and feels like a pre-teen Raiders of the Lost Ark. The kids that I went to see it with had lots of laughs, lots of thrills and loved the romance between the eight Rangers. The films has scenes that revoke theme park reactions: A scorpion on Moes'back falls into his pants (!), Blonde Beauty Bionda becomes the leader of a Zulu tribe and the spectacular plane crash ends with the cockpit dangling over a canyon... Skillfully directed and a smart script. Feels like "Disney Light": no big budget, but all the fun without too much sugar.
