A complete waste of time-travelling
31 March 2024
I was really looking forward to seeing this having read all the positive reviews.

Sadly,, I was disappointed. Credit must go the team who managed to create 6 long episodes where very little happens. I've not read the book so I can't compare the story in each but you could do so much more with it.

Rose Leslie's character was insufferable and there very was little chemistry between her and Henry. I think the casting was all wrong.

Curious to know what happened in the end, I stuck with it. However, I wish now I'd used my time-travelling remote control and skipped to the last episode and saved myself the nothingness in between.

Great but far too long
3 September 2022
It's a great show, great characters, superbly written and lots of fun but my this could have been so much shorter. Almost every episode is filled with elongated scenes of very mundane events such as someone getting dressed and making breakfast - all very beautifully shot but which adds nothing to the show. I have things to do so I skip these scenes. Six seasons is too much anyway for me but take out the fluff and you'd have just four. That would have been more palatable. I think people like to show off how good they are at shooting a camera so we are shown it, endlessly. I'm probably in the minority here so I'm sure nobody else cares!

Way past its sell by date
24 December 2021
It has never worked since the trio left and the Beeb needs to stop wasting the license fee on it. It just doesn't work, the presenters aren't funny and don't have any of the charm or charisma of Jez et al.

Frustrating to watch
7 September 2021
It's almost unwatchable because it jumps from one story to the next before the last one is concluded then returns to it later in the show. I have no idea why the programme makers think this improves the show. Just play out each story fully. I watched half an episode and had to turn it off.

How did it get such high scores?
4 August 2021
I was really disappointed considering the favourable review score. It has the feel of a daytime soap with sex scenes. The characters are so clichéd and over the top - nobody appears to behave in a way you would expect. I've got halfway through episode 2 and have given up.

The show that might end Television
17 April 2021
Wow. I don't usually watch anything like this but was short of search time and it appeared. I imagine this show was pitched as a joke and somehow, somebody said yes. It's just dreadful in every way. I'm not going to dignify it by saying why. If this is your idea of entertainment you need help.

The BBC is losing its edge
30 November 2020
The BBC really needs to revert to making entertaining shows instead of trying to send its viewers messages. I also find it extremely difficult to invest in a show where virtually all its cast members are so abhorrent. The only one I vaguely had any sympathy for was killed off early doors, leaving me with only one reason to continue watching - the slim hope that the remaining characters suffer the same fate.

Good fun and easy to watch.
19 May 2020
It's ideal binge-watch TV but not without its flaws. There are are some good characters - Boxer is the pick of the bunch for me and worth watching for his performance alone. It's beautifully shot and if watching during lockdown, it may be the closest you'll get to a holiday for a while. The biggest issue for me was how unlikeable Alex (the murdered brother) was. Aside from a rousing speech in front of a judge at the beginning I failed to see why he was deemed so charismatic and worthy of all these 'followers'. So that part was totally unbelievable, but it also left me not caring one bit who killed him - just glad they did. His sister was a little annoying too but for different reasons. However, despite that (and a few plot holes) I found it fairly entertaining. It has a few comedic moments too - just don't take it too seriously and enjoy.
