Brendan Gleeson great acting of course but the writing, theme and storyline was ineffective, unclear and severely depressing because all the town was clockwork orange-morally depraved with no hidden rainbows anywhere. Wow. I am Irish-have friends/family there-have lived there for over 10 years and am still shocked at the historical traumas continually being revealed in the harsh unrelenting views-I understand the background and experiences well- but this is nothing but unredemptive, untransformed anger that dishonors my ancestors. His relationship with his daughter and their conversations were wonderfully relieving-brendans character was believable but not within the ridiculous context of mayhem and comedic characters.

Smoother than a vanilla milkshake....

I adore shows with woman as main characters, they are so rare, and this one is thoroughly involving, before you know it-it is over, you are so completely wrapped up in the story, acting; this thriller that you cant believe you drank it all in so sweetly. Each of the woman has her own life story, each of them come with their own brilliant gift, and all care without being sentimental. They are so "you and me" that you feel you could go out to tea with them if you saw them in your life. They are focused, dedicated to the mission and like the marines-leave no woman behind. The more seasons pass-the more developed the characters and possibilities are. Just when I am excited to have found a new friend- ITV makes a gender biased call-women aren't a powerful enough audience-so why bother? 9/10

Excellent beginning

I think it helps considerably if you have your own experiences in life to bring to this shows theme else its possible it will appear chaotic..it is well done in its portrayal of bipolar from the inside..Catherine approaches the Doctor-Patient setting much like you or I might..assuming we are all alike as human beings and different in our manifestations...it is marvelous to see someone who isn't restricted to a purely clinical relationship..her approach is definitely more dangerously empathetic..and as I see it..its not just a diagnosis- its a person with a dimensional difference..is it a gift, is it a burden...is it both? Nothing in this show is black and white and this scares people. The science of Neurology she brings is supremely her own integration which is sadly lacking in the real world. I would be quite surprised if this series were popular enough to sustain ratings, so far the comments I have read indicate a lack of inner courage.
