Clifford the Big Red Dog (2021)
Better than I expected!
I took my 10 year old son to see this and we had grandma come along with us and we all really enjoyed it! The theater was actually kind of full and I heard everyone laughing and enjoying themselves. Very cute, funny movie with that typical heartful good message in the end.
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Kids will like it, adults may find it boring
I have agree with some of the others that this movie is kind of boring. I hate to say it but it is. The reason I give it a middle rating is 2 things: most young kids will enjoy it. My 10 year son loved it! But he's a fan of Looney Toons and he likes LeBron so that's just a no brainer. Also, the special effects are really cool! And it's cool to see some pop culture characters from other hit tv shows & movies, make appearances in this movie as well.
But with all that I still don't know what it is, I don't know what was missing, it's just.... boring! It didn't have as good of laughs as the original although it tried but just didn't land. I didn't hear anyone in the theater really laughing, not kids or adults! I honestly can't say what they could have done different other than hire more comedy writers cause at least then it would have been funny for everyone. I'll give them an A for effort, but this could have been better.
King of the Hill: Aisle 8A (1999)
One of the funniest, but most underrated episode ever
Most people I know who have watched King of the Hill just on regular television (not through a streaming app) have not seen this episode but it's actually a really funny and accurate! Poor Connie gets her period while her parents are away on a business trip and poor Hank is the one left to deal with it since she is staying with The Hill's. He's a typical man in the situation and Connie also doesn't know anything about it. Hank does his best until he can get ahold of Peggy. Hell, I think he does better than most men would in this situation. He's kind, caring and patient and from the looks of it he misses an entire day of work just to deal with it. This episode has both subtle and in your face humor. If you have Hulu watch the show and watch this episode. I rank it in the top 5 of the best King of the Hill episodes.
Richard Jewell (2019)
Underrated
I'm guessing this film probably didn't do too well at the box office because it had been over 23 years since the 1996 bombing and maybe a lot of people weren't familiar with it or Richard's name anymore. I, myself, was only a kid when it all happened but the previews looked interesting enough. The acting in the film is superb! All of the actors do such a great job especially lead actor Paul Walter Hauser. I feel like he's not getting nearly as much recognition that he deserves.
This film is not an "action" film by any means. Only action scenes that happen is the bombing and that's about it. It spends the rest of its time showing you exactly what the FBI and media did to this man. How they looked at him as this simpleton and believed they could persuade him into a confession. It's definitely drama with a small bit of comedy thrown in there but it's all done tactfully in my opinion. I do wish they had discussed more at the end of the movie about Richard's life after the instance scrutiny he was under (88 days to be exact). He sued a lot of media outlets to clear his name, it's also been said every year on the anniversary of the bombing he would privately put a single rose where Alice Hawthorne (the woman who was killed by the actual bomb) had died.
But other than that it's a really good film and I feel like hugely underrated. It shows how powerful the US government and the US media really are. Definitely give it a try if you're into drama based true stories.
Spanglish (2004)
Took me 16 years to appreciate this movie
I first saw this movie when it came out in 2004. I was only 15 and didn't quite get it. I thought it was decent enough but I didn't love it and I thought that the average or below average reviews were fair. Now that I'm older (31) and became a single mother and have had my fair share of odd relationships. Good, bad, and ones that I would have liked to have happened- I totally get this movie now. I can't really explain it but I feel like you have to maybe be kind of older, a little mature, and possibly have had a life or an experience similar to one of the characters to appreciate this movie. It's not for everyone and this review probably won't help too many people but I feel like those who have seen it and like it understand what I'm saying and some of those who haven't watched it yet but are genuinely interested might understand what I mean as well.
Street Level (2015)
It had potential!
Honestly the movie isn't bad, but it's definitely low budget. I like how writer/director David Labrava show cases the nasty, gritty world of addiction (not just drugs, but addiction in general). I'd say it's not bad for the first time movie writer/director but maybe he could have used some help or advice from a more advanced writer/director. The biggest thing for me is the ending: it's not terrible, actually kind of cool but it honestly just ends. I wasn't expecting it to end right there but it just did and it was kind of strange. Maybe he could have wrote a couple more scenes to give it a more satisfactory ending. I feel with more time and experience David will get better if he's willing to put himself out there and maybe even step out of his comfort zone a little. I'd say to viewers give this movie a try with an open mind. It's not terrible, actually pretty entertaining with disturbingly realistic stuff regarding addiction... just remember it is lower budget.
The Lion King (2019)
Not as good as the animated version but still worth watching
The visuals of this movie were stunning. The beginning nearly exact as the animated version. It was done beautifully and I felt most of the actors did a great job. Timon and Pumba were very funny in this one, same with the hyenas. Donald Glover had a nice voice for Simba. James Earl Jones as of course good. Chiwetel Ejiofor did excellent as Scar and I feel like Scar is even scarier in this version. A lot of people I noticed on here seem to hate Beyoncé and are saying the movie was all about her and calling it The Lion Queen.... I honestly don't know what movie these people were watching there was only a couple of extra scenes of Nala that weren't in the original and honestly don't last that long. The other scenes she's with Simba just like in the original. They added a snippet of Beyonce's song "Spirit" in one scene but it's not like it's played through out the whole movie. And of course Beyoncé and Donald Glover sing "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and I will say, for me, it was nothing extraordinary but both are obviously talented singers so it wasn't bad. I'm not a Beyoncé fan at all and maybe someone better could have been casted BUT I feel like some of these people in the reviews are weirdly obsessed with Beyoncé and are wrongly bashing the entire film simply cause they don't like her. It's honestly not that bad! One thing I do agree on is there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of emotion in some of the actors voices and that is unfortunate but overall this movie is done well and if you're truly a fan of the original you should give this version a try.
