Entertaining Surprise!
3 August 2022
I LOVE Dire Straits, and Randy Quaid. This is an unexpected, and very entertaining, combination.

Randy quaid pulls off the "goofy roadie" while Dire Straits does what they do best.

Love the parts where Quaid is imagining himself in the spotlight.

Good, solid action film

Do NOT pay attention to the bad reviews here - those people are probably just disappointed better is no LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ stuff.

The acting is excellent, the story line believable, and very few unrealistic scenes. Would watch again, and would recommend.

Exciting, great storyline

It has been awhile since we have seen Jackie Chan, and he has aged a bit (like the rest of us). This film, understandably, lacks much of the physical action we are used to with Chan, but it still delivers adrenaline pumping action. We watched on a DVD with limited time available; we will watch again to absorb in its entirety.

Waste of 2 hours 1 minute

We like Javier Bardem and Jennifer Lawrence, and the acting was good, as were some special effects, but that is all I can say that is positive.

This was a waste of these actors and digital space. Did not like or appreciate the apparent symbolism of God as narcissistic and uncaring toward his some of His creation in favor of others of His creation, and no regard whatsoever for His own Son.

Did not read the book, but enjoyed the movie.

Not sure why the unfavorable reviews here, as this is a great mystery suspense thriller, good acting, good cast, good story. Reminded me of the British "Red Riding" series of several years ago. My husband enjoyed it too.

Realistic' lessons learned.
8 February 2018
All around good movie -- would have been even better, and family friendly, if the bad language had been left out, as it really did not contribute any more to the film. Too bad, since it would have been a great film to watch with children - had some good lessons in there.

Basically, the film portrays the personal struggle of each of the main characters with regards to the Vietnam "war" and a particular incident that happened to them during that time. This underlying theme is threaded through the ovious storyline of one of these men having to bury his son, sent home in a casket from a modern "war". These characters matured and found personal redemption of one sort or another.

And it had a nice ending.

Did you like The Hand That Rocks The Cradle?
8 February 2018
This is a good film! I chose it at Redbox reluctantly because of the overwhelming amount of bad reviews here. I need not have been concerned. My husband and I both enjoyed this movie. It has a good story (even though we've all seen similar plots), very good acting and everything else that goes into a top production. And, NO, it is NOT Lifetime channel. It is right up there with thrillers like The Hand That Rocks The Cradle and Single White Female.

Unexpected Enjoyment
28 January 2018
After reading most of the reviews here I chose this film at Redbox as a last resort (since I had a discount code it was only $ .27, I figured why not?); I was not expecting a great movie, and warned my husband in advance. I need not have been concerned.

As in all movies, there are a few moments where you want to say to the character, "Just do such and such to resolve this." But overall, the acting, directing, script, setting, story line, filming, etc., was very well done.

My husband even commented of his own accord "This is a good film."

The bad reviews are simply unfair. Kathryn Heigl portrays a believable character, and shines in a role in which we have never before seen her. Dawson and the other actors portray equally believable characters.

Running in the background throughout the film is the idea of how important communication between loved ones is, and the possible consequences of neglecting that aspect of a relationship.

If you liked films such as "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," (DeMornay) and "Single White Female" (Jason Leigh) you will like this one as well.

Excellent film!
29 December 2016
Thanks to the reviewers who said they did not understand the very negative reviews, my husband and I decided to give it a try. We are very glad we did. This film has an in-depth, substantive plot, and very much like an old film where every word matters, you must watch and listen carefully or you may miss an important element -- e.g., someone says "We found a print," holding up an evidence bag containing a bullet. The image lasts only for a second and if you miss it you may not understand why the characters take the next steps. Not realizing from the beginning that we needed to watch and listen carefully, we were lost about 1/3 of the way into the film and restarted it.

Some reviewers mention "bad acting" -- to the contrary, the actors are spot-on, and were obviously directed to maintain a near-monotone voice and attitude throughout the film; reminiscent of The Spanish Prisoner (Steve Martin and Rebecca Pidgeon).

If you like a good crime thriller, mystery, suspense, a deep plot, and somewhat of a surprise ending, you won't be disappointed! This is right up there with The International.

Horrible Disappointment
28 April 2015
I picked up this title because I enjoyed the original film. This is another example of a film that could have been good. It is as though the screen writers were afraid they didn't have much of a plot and thought it would be a good idea to fill the script with unnecessary vulgar language. Don't get me wrong, I don't have virgin ears and can overlook a few F-words, but this is extreme. Forget about the good ole days where sexual innuendo allowed one's imagination to fill in the blanks. This is all-out-leave-nothing-open-to-questions with regards to every kind of sexual act and the participants thereof. Yes, I realize that some sexual references are necessary in this story line due to the nature of one major scene, but this is overkill to the point of discomfort, even for my husband. Don't think for a moment that this film is suitable for children of any age.

Good revenge drama

Good dialog, good story line, good acting. Characters are developed in an interesting way. My husband and I, who generally prefer action flicks, got this because of Maria Bello, and high marks on this site. Maria, as always, does a great job here. Though this is not really an action film, it kept us entertained and we both enjoyed it. A few somewhat "superficial" moments early in the film, but it gets serious soon. And, as in any other film, there are moments when you say "Just do this or that!" and at least one thing is left unexplained, but it does not spoil the film. Great ending, with a vague reference to an earlier Maria Bello film I'm sure you'll recognize.

Decent, entertaining family film.
2 February 2015
Not sure why all the terrible reviews. Sure, this is not your typical Stephen Dorf film, but the actors all did a great job -- portrayal of the average American family dealing with a disgruntled teenager in the aftermath of a divorce and an absent father wrapped up in his work, revealed through a (rather weak) attempt of the father to "man up" and be a dad. Sad, but after the mishap with the dad (mentioned in the description), the best thing that could have happened to this teenage female was what did happen -- to be alone with, and dependent upon, the adult female character. Although there are instances in which coincidence is way out of line with plausibility, the story line, overall, is believable. I did find it interesting that we did not see more animals, as we were taken through the wilds of South Africa. The adult female, though apparently out of her realm of expertise, seems quite capable, I was surprised that she was not portrayed as doing some basic survivalist things that even I would know to do. Overall a decent film, not too many boring moments.

Don't waste your free film credit

I do not know why Scarlett would do this film; it is beneath her from any angle.

It is full of pointless wandering, and many, many moments are spent watching the star stare blankly into the air, or at her own reflection.

I kept waiting for it to get better - it did not.

Too much was left unexplained, but it doesn't matter - I don't want to know.

Scarlett looks as though she put on about 30 pounds for this film.

I certainly hope she was paid very well for this.

It will not, in my opinion, help her career.

This review says much more than I intended (I was forced to write at least 10 lines).
