The Death of Stalin (2017)
Not great. Read the original graphic novel instead
I liked some of the previous Iannuci's work. After watching the trailer, and the reading the original French graphic novel, I went to see the movie with relatively high expectations.
On the bright side, I really like the photography, makeup and costumes. Good work there.
On the not-so-bright side, I was not convinced with the choices of the director with regards to the acting and script. The English/American regional accents did not make sense for this movie. The dialogue was not believable in a Russian seeing. I could not believe the Russian oligarchs would act like a bunch of teen-agers at the dinner in the opening scenes. Zero suspension of disbelief! Worst of all, it was not funny to watch.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
A fresh start for a new Saga
I loved the characters and the performances. For once the CGI doesn't steal the show from actual plot. Recommended for SW fans and not
King Kong (2005)
It's one of the most boring and stupid movies ever seen
I could barely sit for the whole duration of the movie. I was fond of Peter Jackson because of Lord of the Rings (LoR) and this movie is a major delusion for me.
It is totally lacking of credibility, of tension. From the photography and the use of digital, it is similar to LoR, but the effects are totally out of context here. For example, the tribe people look like the orcs in LoR.
The dinosaurs are like in Jurassic Park, just they totally lack of credibility. At some point in the movie some of them even bounce like bowling balls. You don't know if to get angry at the director or to laugh for the stupidity of the action and of the dialogues.
Overall, it was an incredible (negative) experience! Tell to your friends not to waste your money in this film, please!
Entre las piernas (1999)
You can simply avoid to see this movie, move to something better!
"Hommage to Hitchcock"? Are you sure people? Hitchcock has been one of the greatest film directors ever, and his movies are still evocative and compelling today. This is something that we cannot say about "Entre las piernas", for mainly two reasons:
1)It completely lacks in imagination. The plot is very predictable at each step, except the last scenes, when we discover the identity of the killer. Overall, we are never thrilled by the story.
2)The main characters are flat, not to speak about the secondary ones... The story starts in the psychotherapy room, but it fails in really explaining the "why" of their illness, which could have been very interesting. The secondary characters are simply ridiculous.
Overall, I was very bored by the movie even if the content was meant to be pruriginous. The only notable thing is the skill of V. Abril and C.Gomez as well. You can simply avoid to see this movie, move to something better!
The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara (2003)
judging the hystorical facts yourself
I especially enjoyed the documentary for providing lots of hystorical facts through the eyes of the protagonist, McNamara. Among the others, the WW II, the Fordism, the crisis of Cuba and the Vietnamese war are told: a number of "behind the curtains" facts are explained through the use of audio registrations, pictures and raw data as well.
Even if the point of view of the author is mainly justificative towards McNamara, I had the positive feeling that the plot was allowing the viewer to form himself his judgment, without a lot of filter within.
By the way, this is why I didn't like a lot the new Moore's move, Farenheit, because its strong, explicit viewpoint represents a too big filter for us in better understanding the reality.
