Robbie Williams (2023)
Couldn't finish it
There have been some good autobiographical series of late. Arny and Becks are the first to spring to mind. I'm from Stoke On Trent and hoped that this would be of that calibre however the first 2 episodes involve Robbie lying in bed talking about how bad he's had things while watching old footage.
The main issue is that his view is never countered by anyone else. One minute Robbie is in a relationship of some kind with a group, woman or artist then it's over. The undertones appear that none of these people played up to his own self importance so he's bins them off. His melancholy wore me down.
Hunter Hunter (2020)
I film which was advertised masterfully
The promotional material was on point. I fancied this film as abit of a back woods horror about a deranged wolf. I was not let down by story..
The acting was good throughout and the background of the hunting seemed well investigated. As I watched the film I understood what was happening but forcast endings for the film in my head which were completely wrong. It was a very tense movie to watch.
I loved how the story makes sense to all the characters from thier point if reference. Well written well acted well directed and produced on a budget I'm really glad I finally got round to watching this movie.
Army of the Dead (2021)
It's a film about Zombies and your complaining about realism
I watched the film expecting some non stop action dross, hoping it would just be fun.
I wasn't let down the film is fun, but it also had more depth than I imagined.
There were some scenes that I felt were quite intense, and had me gripped far more than I'd expected to be.
To look at the other reviews you'd think this was Scorsese film. Its not it's some escapist fun around a group of people taking on a bat shizzle crazy mission. In fairness the way it plays out seems like the most realistic results.
Looking at Predator for instance some of the most terrible acting and cheese on film, and yes it was the 80's but there isn't many people who would argue it isn't a classic.
This film has you feeling for the characters and while it still uses a muscle bound ex wrestler as the front man he acts well.
There are cliche characters and you can probably guess who will die first, but that is fairly standard. It was only early GOT which subverted those expectations and still buckled by the end.
Watch this movie for what it is was meant to be. If it was realistic it would have ended in the first 10 minutes with Batista telling the guy where to stick his mission.
The film could have been shorter, but it's Zak Snyder and it comes with the territory.
I watched Kong Vs Godzilla recently and that fell far below what I'd see as acceptable tolerances of realism in a film with a concept so ridiculously fictional. This on the other hand was okay.
Also don't expect it to be Dark and gritty like 28 Days later, it doesn't take itself as seriously as that.
I hope my review is enough to get you to invest the time to watch the film. If you go in with the expectations from the other reviews I'm sure you'll be suitably surprised.
Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes (2012)
Good Suspense well written
These low budget films lack funds for decent costume or special affects, so don't expect to see big budget monsters. I find a poorly executed monster pulls you from the experience.
I thought this film was suspensful, things that occur have decent reasons once the story catches up.
When you watch closely you see things and I think I may have missed some. It feels like most YouTube footage of sasquatch. There has clearly been study into different Bigfoot encounters.
All in all I enjoyed it, but I went in not expecting any blockbuster style reveals.
If your interested in sasquatch it's worth a punt.
Altered Carbon (2018)
Season 1 is Awesome Season 2 drops completely of
I'd recommend season 1 to anyone to watch it was novel and gritty. Some really cool sci-fi elements with plenty of mysteries to work out.
Season 2 was run of the mill writing and poor script. I didn't like the change if actors although the story does lend itself to providing decent explanation as to why, that said there are plenty of other sleeves that have been cloned so it would have been easy to reuse the original star.
I was just left with a feeling of disappointment after looking forward to season 2 for so long.
Power: No One Can Stop Me (2019)
Abysmal Writing
This episode was so poorly written I actually thought it was the end of the series and was glad I wouldn't have to endure further betrayals of character to all the people in the series. It Assisinates ghosts character by turning him into an arrogant fool to every other character he meets which is not true to him at all. It did this to the point where I thought the final scene was part of his plan and he wanted things to go that way.
There were more scenes of dialogue with dead people which didn't make sense given he had never been privy to the disclosures they made, unless the show has become a super natural series with actual Ghosts.
I would have been more happy with the contrived intrigue left at the end of the episode, without him having to have belittled everyone else to create an air of uncertainty.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Can't understand the bad reviews
I never went to watch this movie at the cinema due to the poor reviews. I ended up watching it on a plane and was pleasantly surprised, and disappointed I had watched it on such a small screen.
The film is quite fast paced moving from action scene to action scene. While it is about Han Solo for the bulk of the film it is around the teams that he is partnered up with.
I watched it facing the fact that the Actor playing Han doesn't look much younger than Harrison Ford in A new Hope. You just have to accept that.
I enjoyed the story and despite others claiming that there was no suspense as obviously everyone knows Han and Chewey must make it out, there are a number of decent characters whose stories don't end up as happy endings. I thought the plot was a good story.
I enjoy the new films and the darker approach to the narrative, they are still Disney but more adult.
There are a lot of people who don't want any deviation from the old films and have slated the new ones, but accept them for what they are and they are good films.
I for one will definitely go to the Cinema for the next one, whatever the hordes of fanboys have to say.
