Kus Uçusu (2022)
High quality drama with gorgeous cast & overwhelming soundtrack
I haven't seen this coming. Surprisingly good! The series shows the battle between a crow (figurative) and a lion (fig.), high society and poor people, someone who reached everything in life and someone who wants to reach everything in life. A clash of generations. It has a beautiful and artistic cinematography, gorgeous casting and amazing soundtrack. The music adds so much tension to the story, it really catches the attention. This is a high quality production and you can see, hear and feel it. The only weak point is the script, but this is a Netflix production. Nowadays, most of Netflix Originals has problems with their script. It is nothing special for this series. Bearing this in mind, As The Crow Flies brings a high quality drama with gorgeous talents and an overwhelming soundtrack to the streaming platform.
Bienvenidos a Edén (2022)
For an audience that doesn't like to think and look for some kind of sense
It could be so much better. But the writers / producers were okay with a meaningless and ordinary plot. I don't like it when the production team things I - as a viewer- am a silly person who doesn't need any an intelligent written story and just want to see attractive people and naked bodies. But surprise: I want more. In Welcome to Eden, you will get many silly young adults making very silly decisions. There is no sense in non of the sub-plots. I mean, if you are looking for young people who doesn't feel loved at home and want to start a new life with people who love and respect them - then go and explain them exactly that they can find this on the island. Why forcing them to live there and kill them if they don't want to? How can you force someone to stay with you when you also can find people who WANT TO stay with you? I don't get it. The series has got bigger plotholes than the supermassive black hole.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Feels like an ordinary ABC-network-series
I must admit I expected more. It felt like an ordinary US-network-series. David E. Kelley produced some of my favourite tv series (e.g. Big Little Lies and The Undoing) but Lincoln Lawyer is not one of them. However, it doesn't even feel like a Kelley-production. I guess he just took part as a producer but wasn't involved further. I also watched the former film with McConnaughey as the lawyer and liked it. But again, the series couldn't satisfy.
Kärlek & anarki (2020)
Another series praising betrayal as something good and fun
Another series praising betrayal as something good and fun. It has a nice plot and is enjoyable, but why couldn't the authors just keep the challenges without betrayal? I don't like this kind of series. If you are not happy in your marriage, then divorce and move on. It could be more interesting if Sophie and Max had a subtle interest in each other but would not cross the border. The tension between them would be much more intense.
Clark (2022)
Ackerlund gives us what we expect. A rollercoaster of political incorrectness and trigger scenes
Before you start watching Clark, you should watch the music clips directed by Jonas Ackerlund. Then you will have a feeling how this series will be. It feels like a gigantic music video. Ackerlund gives the viewers exactly what they expect. I find it hard to explain the series, so believe me go watch Paparazzi, Telephone (Lady Gaga), American Dream (Lady Gaga, Director Version), Hold it against me (Britney Spears) and many Rammstein music videos first and if you like them, then start with Clark. But be aware, it is full of political incorrectness, explizit scenes (inklusive genitals) and many other things that can trigger you. So if you are a sensitive soul, stay away. Otherwise: enjoy the ride!
Slow Horses (2022)
Like other typical Secret Service series but still entertaining
Slow Horses delivers a promising starting but can't hold the level. After the second episode it becomes a boring and well known agent / secret service series. It adds nothing new, nothing unseen, nothing untold. If you have watched any secret service series, than you can expect the same setting and story here. MI5 causes many damages but always wins. This is something we see in Hollywood productions with the heroic FBI, CIA etc. Which always saves the world. You can expect the same story here. Although I really like Gary Oldman, but Jackson Lamb is such an annoying character, it was a torture watching him. I really couldn't care lass what's behind his story. Lamb is an awful character and I whisked the second season would be without him. Unfortunately, he is the main character. Nevertheless, the reason why I still give 7 stars is because despite all the negative aspects I've written, Slow Horses was entertaining and fun to watch AND had a not-bad-ending. If the season finale would end like Suspicion for example, I would definitely give 1 star.
Killing Eve: Hello, Losers (2022)
Goodbye, Losers
The better the first seasons were, the worse was the final one. I really forced myself to watch until the very last season but man, I should have ended it earlier. The finale is awful and just a waste of time. If the series would end up as a 10-part-mini-series, it would be brilliant. But now, it can take place at the starting good but ending very, very bad series list among with Lost, Heroes and How to get away with Murder. Goodbye, Losers.
Suspicion: Unmasked (2022)
Very disappointing end
Without this episode, Suspicion would be an enjoyable thriller. But the way the secrets are revealed is too disappointing and has nothing to do with the whole story. It felt like the producers wanted to make a twist nobody would ever expect. Too bad the twists didn't fit the other 7 episodes. That's why the final episode felt so wrong.
Killing Eve (2018)
Starts thrilling and enjoyable but gets disappointing during the time
Killing Eve starts so good, the first season is imho a masterpiece! I love and enjoyed every second of it. It is thrilling, intriguing, very well written and stars the amazing Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh. These two are the main reason why the series is that popular. Their love-hate-relationship is something else, it is so fun to follow their journey. But unfortunately the second and third seasons are behind the first one, they can't hold the tempo. The final season is even worse, there is no motivation to end it. Heroes and How to get away with murder watchers will understand the feeling of disappointment. However, I would still recommend it. The first season is worth it.
Severance (2022)
Either it catches you from the beginning or not
Well after all of the positive and convincing reviews, I wanted to give Severance a chance. I can understand why people love the series but it's not my cup of tea. It is slow, it is calm, it needs time to unfold the story and it needs patience. In criminal series I'm okay with slow tempo because there is a will to figure out who is the murderer. But in Severance, I can't see any aspect which keeps me interested to follow the happenings. Parallel to the tempo, I slowly lost my interest and didn't want to finish it.
Power (2014)
Each season gets better
At the beginning Power didn't really catch me up but the progress made me a huge fan of the series! Every season is better than the previous one. I have to say that one should not expect an intelligent written story or twists. But it's still intriguing and thrilling. Also the over-nudity is annoying, if I wanted to watch a porn, I would do so. Sex scenes often feel too forced and not naturally placed within the story.
Yakamoz S-245 (2022)
Thrilling and dynamic: A grown up version of Into the Night
Yakamoz S245 is a spin-off to the Belgian Netflix series Into the Night. So it occurs in the same dystopian world. But instead of an airplay, this time a submarine helps the protagonists to survive the deadly sun. If you liked Into the Night, you will like this one too. Otherwise don't give it a try, you will end up like the other disappointed 1-star-reviewers. Yakamoz is very Dynamic, thrilling and with lots of energy. You will always want to know what will happen next so you will definitely binge-watch it. Not only thrilling, but also dramatic elements are added very well. All in all the series is like a Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich film: you should not seek for a logical plot. You should only grab your popcorn and enjoy the show.
Anatomy of a Scandal (2022)
Had so much potential but didn't use it
David E Kelley is the producer of the amazing series Big Little Lies and The Undoing. Also Goliath and Boston Legal are produced by Kelley. If you like court drama, you probably will like this one too. Therefore I had high expectations for Anatomy of a Scandal But I am disappointed. The series had so much potential but didn't use it. It could be so much better. I don't understand why they didn't take time to unfold the story? It felt too rushed and bumpy. Many interesting plots have been revealed in the same episode as they were mentioned. By doing so, the viewer had no opportunity and time to get emotionally involved. At the end, I really didn't care what was going to happen. I was just like okay, interesting.
The only good thing is the cinematography. The series has amazing shots and pictures. It felt like Kelley knew the storyline is thin and don't fit the expectations, so he uses the camera and effects to show what the characters are feeling.
Pera Palas'ta Gece Yarisi (2022)
Plot sounds interesting but it don't match the expectations
The plot is interesting so is the novel, but unfortunately they don't really match the expectations. Time travel is not everyone's cup of tea. So you need to like the genre. In addition to that, you need to know a little bit the history of Turkey in order to understand the story. Besides, you need to like over-acting. For example Hazal Kaya is a good actress but in this series she is over-acting which is getting annoying. In general nothing in this series feels natural or authentic, it feels fake. If you can enjoy it go ahead. But I prefer more subtle, more authentic stories with deep messages. Pera Palace has a very interesting history, e.g. It is said that Agatha Cristie wrote her famous Murder in the orient express in Pera Palace. All in all Midnight at Pera Palace is okay to watch but you cannot compare it with Ethos/Bir Baskadir, Fatma, Atiye or The Uysals (regardless their genres) which are amazing Turkish Netflix series.
Élite (2018)
Started entertaining but became a soulless sex show
The series began interesting but after the first season it became more and more a soft porn. The story was over so they tried to catch up the viewers by nudity and sex- sex sells. This makes me mad because I really enjoyed the first season. It had social criticism, generation conflicts, gender related discussions, racism etc. During the time all of these topics disappeared. Elite could be such an amazing show but they ruined it.
Upload (2020)
Entertaining first season but disappointing second
I really enjoyed the first season. It was fresh, entertaining and funny. I would not describe it as comedy but neither as drama. Dramedy also doesn't fit as description. It shows a serious story in a less serious way. Most of the characters are enjoyable. The concept of being uploaded to a virtual world after the death is very interesting. So it is fun to follow Nathan's story. All in all the first season is really good, but the second is disappointing. They couldn't catch up the level of the first season, they tried to move the story into another direction but didn't really succeed. I would rather prefer to watch the first season's story continuing. 8 stars for the first season and 5 for the second.
Uysallar (2022)
Arthouse series, not for the mainstream
This series is definitely not meant for the mainstream. It is more an arthouse-style series. If you watched other Turkish Netflix series, this is comparable with Ethos / Bir Baskadir. Unique characters, unique storytelling, unique work. It is slow but still moves forward. It has an amazing soundtrack and the DOP also made a good job, the visuals are incredible. Hakan Günday is known for his left political opinion and you can find many hidden messages and criticism regarding the government in this series. But the criticism is also going beyond the Turkish border - it is rather a global / social criticism. Everyone can feel free to be offended.
Graceland (2013)
A story full of un-intelligent Agents
TV on, head off. Graceland is like most of the Roland Emmerich films: nice to watch but without any reasonable story. I have watched several FBI-themed series but non of them had so many un-intelligent agents. One sillier than the other. Usa network is not known for intelligent storytelling but man this is beyond. But still, it is fun to watch this.
Suspicion (2022)
Started slowly, got better and ended bad.
The series started slowly but got better and better. But the end was a crap. Neither the explanation / reveal was good nor the end of the story. It was a big disappointment. Episode 7 should be the season finale and a second season should make a better end. But to be honest, the suspense throughout the whole season was amazing and kept me thrilled. I really whish they had a better ending.
Your Honor: Part Ten (2021)
Many plotholes but still thrilling and enjoyable
If the final episode would be the finale of the entire series, like it was announced before, I would not give more than 3 points. But regarding a second season, the season finale seems very exciting. The season finale had plot holes bigger than black holes, I mean how on the earth did the jury see Carlo not guilty? How was this possible? Why did Adam go to the party? Why did he get closer to the girl whose brother he had killed? I got the feeling that Michael will believe Baxter killed his son and start hunting him and his family in the next season. Adam's death was important to bring Michael back to reality: you cannot deal with the mafia and get away with it.
Hightown (2020)
Not a must-watch but still good
Well, it´s neither a gamechanger series, nor a must-watch. But nevertheless I still enjoyed it. You should not expect a crime series like True Detective, The Bridge, The Killing or any other Netflix crime show which has led the top 10 for more than a week. But you can expect a nice ´´evening-filler´´. I find the story of Renee and Det. Abruzzo very interesting and mostly watched for them. Do not worry about the negative comments and give it a try.
The Mauritanian (2021)
Disturbing and inspiring at the same time
This Movie is hard to watch, I often wanted to scip the torture scenes. But it is important to watch these scenes. Only then you can realize how tough and brave and strong Slahi was/is. Strong enough to find his inner peace during the hell. Strong enough to forgive the torturers. And strong enough to still have faith. Slahi's story is inspiring more than most of the TED talks together. Guantanamo could not brake him, so nothing else can ever brake him.
Lucy (2014)
Super dynamic and intense action film
I dont get the low Ratings. This film is not a philosophical work, neither it is an intelligent written story about our capabilities. Well these topics are part of the story of course, but the focus is on action sequences. Lucy is full of action, very dynamic and intense. I couldnt get my eyes off the screen for the whole film.
Mother! (2017)
As you can see from the critics, you'll love or hate it
There is almost nothing in between. Either the film catches you and you love the allegories, the metophers, the parabola. Or you hate every minute of it. Mother is not a mainstream film, it is not suitable for everyone. You should like arthouse Cinema and enjoy it. During the whole film, almost every minute I was like wtf is happening?! And I loved the feeling!
Valeria (2020)
Praising betrayal like its sth good
I dont like it when adultery is being shown as something good. Yeah you might be unhappy in your mariage and you might find someone new you want to be with. But Come on, why do you keep both men and betray your husband when you know you dont love him anymore. Just split up and move on. I dont like this Kind of series.
