Not Even A Good Bad Movie?
27 February 2014
As I watched the first five minutes, surprisingly the first thing that came to my mind.....was this: Why can I hear the echo of the sound stage? Could the director and sound crew have rectified this issue in post production? Clearly this was overlooked or personal laziness. This movie feels like it was made by a high school film class and acted as such. It is also horribly noticeable that the actors portraying the Mr. and Mrs. Brady roles are cringing behind their own acting skills at having agreed to do this picture. Perhaps it was altogether a rushed half caring production and it horribly shows several years later. As the title of this review states....it's not even a good bad movie. Troll 2 is an Oscar worthy effort in comparison. I did get laughs...but not because of any clever screen writing or acting and it's not even thirty minutes into the film. Maybe I'll get to see a boom make a cameo.

A Great Piece From the John Hughes Catalog
21 July 2013
Such a great movie! I was arguing with myself for the longest time, avoiding this one, thinking it may not contain elements of what I commonly associate John Hughes movies to be....a certain formula if you will. I was not displeased in the least with this movie. It had all the emotional elements a movie should have and what a great directorial project. I always enjoyed Hughes and his certain direction points and trademarks. I thought he did a great job.

Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern shine true as a newly wed couple, struggling in the beginning years and also experiencing different effects of their marriage. In some places, I found myself completely relating and laughing out loud. The ending held me on pins and needles and with that conclusion, I felt this movie had everything it should offer. Much Recommended and you can't say you've experienced a great John Hughes movie, until you see this one.

Indeed, A good Zombie Flick
11 July 2013
I think this addition to the zombie film genre is great has a better feel to it than some previous ones. Very loosely based on the book, the storyline provided is well enough and I found myself sincerely caring for them all and routing for Pitt's character and bravery to protect his own. From the trailers I have expected a sloppy looking graphically created zombies flooding about in the masses. It gave a vulnerable feel to the main characters and that you can't necessarily guarantee a getaway when their faster than a marathon runner. The ending and resolve left one with hope as it was intended in the story as a whole. I will definitely purchase it when it comes out. And sometimes, it's okay to have a zombie flick and have it not be all about the gore, which I am pleased to see that this movie did not spend a whole lot of time doing. Recommended

Fright Night (1985)
9/10
One Of the Best of the 80's Horror
24 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Fright Night......without a doubt one my favorites from the 80's. The story of teenage boy dealing with an insufferable bloodsucker recently moved in next door. There are certain points where it dates itself, the music, the clothing, the hair, but nevertheless a classic in my opinion.

I was about 11 when I first saw it on one of the movies channels and it enthralled me and I don't necessarily mean scaring me. It was an enjoyable film, with a good storyline, simple...but good. The acting is good for the time, and has some quirks, but not in a sense of filling like, "Man..that dude can't act!"

The setting for the house that Jerry Dandridge lives in, casts a good, hauntingly chilled appearance and Chris Sarandon provides the smooth and calm, yet sly and sadistic performance as Dandridge and when you've spent a few scenes watching him you begin to realize this guy's no Grandpa Munster.

William Ragsdale convinces you of his role as Charlie Brewster, the slightly paranoid horror movie fan with a bit too much curiosity flowing through his adolescent mind.....though they did a good job with the scenes of the first two of Dandridge's victims. When you see those long distorted fingernails, it makes me think of Nosferatu and his creepy Ole self.

Roddy McDowall proves himself and his acting ability in the role of the Vampire Hunter, Peter Vincent, who in the beginning is put aside by Charlie and his newfound desires to kill the supposed vampire neighbor, but once convinced when being attacked by Evil Ed (Stephen Geoffreys of 976-Evil)is ready to take down the bloodsucker of the neighborhood.

I will not go into more of the film, because I recommend the viewing of this classic 80's vampire movie, neither will I judge the remake that is currently out. The Con's of this film I have is probably the presence of the character Amy, who is also Charlie's girlfriend. I am still not fond of the character, nor the actress portraying it. So go to your video store, and rent it just might give you a Fright!!

Troll 2 (1990)
8/10
Something I remembered from Childhood.
25 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I can remember back when I must have been eight or nine years old, and my young eyes set on the television screen and remained there for an hour and a half, and being so young I never realized I would be gazing upon what would later be considered BEST WORST MOVIE.

The acting is below par, the film work looks like amateur work and it is honestly one of the most entertaining movies I've ever watched. It lays claim strongly on that late eighties/early nineties style, both in film-style and clothing. Also serving the viewer with the classic lines, such as "Oh My God!!" being dramatically dragged about in such annoying audio recall. I still eat on occasion a double-decker Bologna sandwich. I remembered years ago when I watched this as child, I felt very sad for Joshua at the end. Go through all of that hoopla, to only see your mother being devoured by trolls....excuse me...goblins.

Years later, I was browsing a certain site and a small section of my memory replayed in my mind and I recalled Troll 2. So I found a copy and re-watched it all and read about the hype that it now currently is and I must say, this movie comes in close with a tie to Manos:The Hands of Fate.
