The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Worth it anyway
I knew who the characters would be at the end. A little formulaic in that sense. But god, was it worth the ride.
Well crafted. Well acted. Well written. Delicious characters. Delicious scenery. Perfect.
Ratched (2020)
Meh
Well acted, well directed, beautifully shot. Rather Kubreckian/Wes Anderson feel.
Story was enjoyable at times, clunky at times, and too American Horror Story-ish for my tastes.
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
The Movie We Need
We are in a year (2020) where we face SUCH division among humans that we are at a loss. Empathy, love, kindness, generosity. They are sorely lacking during this god awful year.
What this gem of a movie does is takes us away from it all and feeds our senses. The soundtrack is so soothing and beautiful. The visuals are absolutely incredible. The host has the most soothing voice and his documentary could never have been narrated by anyone else. But then there's this creature and we all fall in love with her.
We all know how intelligent octopi are. This is no surprise. We've seen those videos where they manage to escape traps purposely set up to test their intelligence. But to watch the relationship, the awe, the love from a human who is going through some Deep Stuff, and to hear him tell how this little friend, that she changed him and she healed his soul.
This is magic.
Departure (2019)
Decent Avatation Whodunnit
This series was pretty good in keeping you guessing as to what the cause was and who was behind it. And even right until the end, you still didn't know the truth. Looking forward to the second season but Archie and Kris best be getting it on. Definitely some fire there.
Not sure what was with all the negative reviews. I guess people aren't so easily entertained by shows about death, murder, greed, and ego.
Archie, as always, is fabulous and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her helm her own series.
The Spy (2019)
Noah's accent
Noah's accent is awful when everything else is spot on. His in/out accent really ruins it for me and I'm unable to stay focused when he's speaking.
Otherwise a well acted/directed/written show.
