Death Note (2017)
Unpopular opinion: it's actually good, if you puts the source material aside.
after 3 minutes i almost stopped watching it. i'm glad i kept watching.
here is the thing: The artistic decision to choose lighter tone for this remake is not the best thing to do, in my opinion; but given that, when you ignore the source material and watch it as something completely distinct, it's actually very good fantasy-teen movie. the cast is very good, and same goes for the cinematography and the soundtrack. this movie in general has high production values, unlike many Netflix movies that felt like B-movies.
i guess the problem of everyone here is the script. indeed, the story could be much deeper and smarter. the suspense level of this movie could easily be like "Silence Of lambs". the decision to select eventually flat story that skip many dramatic development and twists or simplify them is controversial for sure. but again if you look it as teen-fantasy movie, this script is still smarter than many other movies in the genre that came lately. the storyline has it's flaws, but if you ignore certain plot holes and changes in certain concepts of the death note, and treat it as a new different story, it could be fun ride. my rate:7.5/10
Impastor (2015)
No doubt- it's the best comedy of 2015.
this show has extremely funny and crazy plot. the acting is superb, especially Michael rosenbaum (lex Luther of "smallvile") that show us a great comic ability.
the craziness of impastor reminds me the show "my name is earl", (althought it's way better).
many high-concept-sitcoms started this year. comedies with ongoing plot, like the last man on earth, unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, galavant, etc. i believe that impastor is now the best show of this sub-genre.
in age when every half-hour dramas with one silly joke per episode pretend to be "comedy", it's refreshing to see show that have many laughs.
i found this show last week, tried the first episode, and just found myself binging the first 6 episodes. too bad it's on TV-land, so most people never heard of, or under impression that this show is like TV land's other crap. also, it's ashame that TV land didn't promoted this great show as it should be.
in conclusion: do yourself a favor and try to watch the best current comedy show.
Axe Cop (2012)
We need more shows like this!
Axe Cop is incredible funny show that parody all the Super-Hero cartoons and the Pulp Fiction genre.
Alomst every second there is some cops/science-fiction Cliché that turns in unexpected way to crazy direction. the creators mock about almost any sub-genre of Geek Culture, including Anime, Super-heroes comics/ TV shows, Procedurals shows, Detective novels, Western movies, Horror movies, Science-fiction, Fantasy, and much more. Must-See show for every Geek!
and yes, it's childish, and the humor is often silly and immature, but in cool, funny and original way. in these days when most TV shows are the same (procedurals/soaps), it's refreshing to see an original show on a broadcast TV channel.
