Brazen (2022)
Disappointing ... not a Political review
I agree with Alyssa Milano's politics a 100%. I was really excited see Netflix's take on Romantic Suspense. I have always disliked the Lifetime/Hallmark take on the genre. I have read the book and enjoyed it at the time. But the movie is absurdly unbelievable and Milano was completely the wrong choice for the lead. The foreshadowing was so heavy handed it wasn't even trying to be a mystery. I read this book yeaaarrrrs ago. I had no memory going in who the killer was but I knew who the killer was in his first scene. I'm happier with the acting of Emilie Ullerup and Sam Page but Milano was not relatable at all. I'm sick of these movies treating their audience as though they are unsophisticated. I was hoping for a grittier, sexier take and Netflix did not deliver. Please going forward stop relying solely on the Name Recognition of your actors and sell the story. If anyone who has watched 20 minutes of true crime is going to call out your realism then make it believable. Stop overselling the plot. Please treat the material with a smidgen of respect and the audience like a woman's viewpoint matters. Netflix don't do a bad take of a lifetime movie. Take a sexy murder mystery and SELL it. This book was was good but it was published in 1988. It's actually book 2 in a series! The author has newer more timely material you could have brought to the screen like Come Sundown or Shelter in Place. Instead you pick a novel that is really old and only minimally bring it up to date. Do better Netflix. Treat the material with respect. Get direction that is less heavy handed and leads who can sell the story. I should have given this 2 stars but the rest of the cast don't deserve that.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Everything I hoped for
Some people need to chill. This was fantastic the only deduction I gave was for who the powerbroker turned out to be. There were times I jumped out of my seat to cheer or recoil in horror. The acting was excellent The marvel throwbacks poignant. I loved the action. How much I ended up liking Zemo surprised me though.
