Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021)
Two weeks in quarantine was more enjoyable
The action scenes are nothing we haven't seen before, actually that is the problem since it is the usual over the top nonsense that seems popular these days. Directors need to take a look at the old classics and see how its done. Take Heat for example, totally realistic and exiting to watch rather than this rubbish they keep throwing our way.
One could say yes but it is intended for younger audiences but Salma Hayek's lines if you can call them that scuppers that line of reasoning. Did she get paid per profanity?
So the movie is not really fit for younger audiences thanks to the poor dialogue which seemed like a contest to see how many times the F and C words could be fitted into a scene.
The Action scenes were not worth watching if you are over eighteen and have at least some critical thinking ability.
So I guess the movie was aimed at people who just want some background noise and flashing lights while they drift off into a coma.
F9 (2021)
F9? Should have been called Alt F4
Seriously they lost the plot with this, it is almost as if it was written and directed by flat Earth and Space deniers as one giant troll.
Fine movies tend to stretch the laws of physics a little but this was just overboard and literally turned the theory of gravity into an actual theory, oh and getting to space? Barely an inconvenience.
No what made this "brand" iconic has simply been whittled away one sequel after the other until this one arrived and took a giant axe to it.
9-1-1: Jinx (2021)
Jinx is right
What is happening with this show? Used to be good action with realistic scenarios. Episode one had me thinking the show seemed a bit different and less serious but it was still okay to watch, but this episode had me thinking the writers were out of ideas and were just going for one of those quick rapid fire shows, you know where they have multiple incidents happening one after the other with no depth to the story.
It all just seemed pointless and silly.
9-1-1: There Goes the Neighborhood (2021)
Cringe fest
This show used to be fairly good with some realistic 911 type of action, now it has just turned into a cringe fest of goofiness. Ridiculous and dramaless rescue scenes and silly music playing all the time to let you know it is supposed to be funny, constant nattering about their personal lives and problems in the middle of supposedly saving people and even stopping to have said conversation. If i remember correctly on episode one they stopped for a chat while searching for an infant baby which was buried somewhere under tons of debris, the show has just become worse since then. Bring back the old writers!
Brimstone (2016)
An intelligent well executed movie for a mature audience.
Finally a 2 and a half hour movie that kept me awake from beginning to end. Not because it was bursting with over done explosions and action but because the story and acting is so compelling that you just have to keep watching to find out how it all ends. Fair warning some may feel a little confused about what is happening at first because the story actually starts at the end and then moves through different times in the life of the central character but that is fine because the story is broken into chapters so you quickly realize that we are moving to a new time line. This is not something to watch with the kids or on your first movie night with the new love of your life there are more than enough of those around. No this is something different to be enjoyed alone or with someone you have been with for a while and wants to see something not aimed at kids but at a mature audience with the intellect to understand it for what it is. It is engrossing, intelligent, disturbing, moving, exiting and a great way to pass some time.
Wallander: The White Lioness (2015)
Flawed politics but a good story otherwise
I rather enjoy seeing foreign made shows set in South Africa just to see how badly they get it wrong. Now don't take this the wrong way I did enjoy the show but the way it was portrayed was a little off putting for someone who lives there. For example Kurt wandering around in Kayaletsha unmolested and even going into a pub.If you are a white guy alone good luck with that, not to say you would be killed or anything but you would know you aren't supposed to be there.Second thing was the obvious pro ANC dialogue through out especially in a city where there is not much love for the ANC. The most annoying of course was the part where the female Detective mentions that a white youth had attempted to shoot a black politician. Yes many black ANC politicians were killed during the local election but that was all done by people within the party removing their opposition and people not happy with who the party had elected to stand as Councillors. Not once was a white, Indian or Coloured person ever caught or accused of perpetrating those crimes. If you can overlook the biased politics in the show the rest of the story is great and well worth watching.
Murder in the First: Twenty-Fifteen (2015)
Great episode that falls flat 15 minutes later .
This episode started off with a lot of excitement and high tension .So much promise until it went all cliché . A teenager commits murder ,he was a loner who played video games and listened to goth music .Omg yes playing a video game and listening to music makes teenagers become murderers . Now while the show never directly goes out and say's he killed people for those reasons they do make a point of shoving two video game cases in-front of the camera and going to a goth concert full of scary freaks . They Collect his Xbox and mention his Xbox profile name to further tie in the link. Sorry but when shows resort to this tired old reason for teen murders it just puts me off completely .If it truly was causal then there would be thousands of murders every week related to games . Please find better story content rather than furthering some personal mission .
