The Spy Who Never Dies (2022)
A least it was technically well made. Was it meant to be a parody?
It feels like the cast did the best with the material provided. Maybe the director should find a better writer (eg not himself) or find a writing buddy. The actual production is really very good. Some of the shots use excessive different angles but I think that might have been somebody trying to compensate for the script.
Clearly with the title it was meant to be a parody but sadly, if you don't quite get enough references to other films, it can just come across like a poor version of the film it could have been.
Best parts:
Good lighting
Good filming
Good sound and careful music
Obviously COVID time production
Special Effects on a Budget
Average Parts:
Good editing
Some fight scenes
Poor Parts
Storyline.
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023)
Topical, action film with a laugh
Operation Fortune is a hilarious, action-packed movie that will leave you feeling entertained and satisfied. Hugh Grant delivers his comedic charm, bringing much-needed levity to the film. The story of AI is relevant and adds a modern twist to the classic spy genre. The big action scene at the end is thrilling and satisfying, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats. The lead actress, whose sass and charm is palpable, carries the film with ease. The chemistry between her and the other actors is electric, making the movie even more enjoyable. While the plot is not the most original, the execution is flawless. It is a delightful blend of humor, action, and intelligence. If you are looking for a fun, entertaining movie, Operation Fortune is a must-see.
United States of Al: Promises/Wadaha (2021)
Unfortunately brilliant
I binged through a season of this above average sitcom and then they delivered this "Arron Sorkin esk" touching episode but with a more delicate handling of an awful situation. If you've not watched season 1, you need the character development of it to appreciate this moment - but do yourself a favour and do it.
If the Emmys find a reason to create a "Brilliant Episode in an Above Average Sitcom" award, then this would win it.
Even under the filtered and biased news the west gets from this country, it's apparent 18 months on Afghanistan doesn't appear to have improved under the Taliban rule.
