Dead Man (1995)
An underrated masterpiece.
I absolutely adore this film. I'm sure it's one of Johnny Depps most underrated and least known pieces of art. That's the best way to describe this masterpiece, art.
The symbolism throughout reflecting life, death and that journey between is played out wonderfully by Depp. Let's not forget the incredible work of Gary Farmer, playing the Native American saviour of William Blake.
This might all sound confusing, especially when you add into the fact it is essentially a western. Watch it, several times!
Dark Shadows (2012)
Great director, great actor, great performance and great music!
Another Burton, Depp Carter collaboration and I love it.
That said, I wasn't blown away the first time I watched it. The second time was far better and now I know it word for word. I appreciate Johnny Depp performance more and more each time. Please give it a second go if you were not overly impressed first time.
Oh and the music is fab!
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
Tim Burton hits the mark again with this dark musical.
Well of course it was going to be a masterpiece! What else would you expect from a Burton, Depp, Carter collaboration?
Add a splash of Alan Rickman, Sacha Baron Cohen and Timothy Spall and you have a recipe for something amazing.
The thrilling musical tell the dark story of Sweeney Todd the demon barber. Anybody familiar with this gruesome tale will be aware of what lies ahead. If you don't know, expect blood.. and lots of it!
Now, on to the star of the show. Johnny Depp never fails to perform. His acting skills are amazing and this time we get to hear his outstanding singing voice.
I love this film.
City of Lies (2018)
Not a bad word to say about this. A must see.
Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker do an amazing job of portraying the fight for the truth regarding the murder of The Notorious BIG.
As usual Depp fully embraces his character leaving you fully engrossed in the emotions of Russell Poole, the detective at the heart of the investigation.
This would not be the genre I would usually go for but fully recommend this movie.
London Fields (2018)
Trash - belongs in the bin, just don't even bother.
It was a real struggle to watch this, let me explain. (I would put a spoiler warning here.... but if you haven't watched this yet... don't)
The Writer. Boring, creepy, dull, emotionless, pretty terrible acting. Again what a dull boring character, yet central to the plot.
The Weird Darts player. Spends the whole film with weird facial squint, smirk, thing going on. It was rather off putting. Weird accent, just weird.
The Posh One, if you can make out what he is saying you have done better than me. Mumbles, mumble mumble. Subtitles required.
The Woman. Struts about in her underwear, the whole film, painfully terrible acting.
I just don't get this film at all. Terrible plot, terrible acting, and don't get me started on the "kid" in the dinosaurs costume. They have literally thrown so much random trash together and tried to sell it using "the pretty seductive female with no clothes on"
The only positive is the 12 minutes contributed by Johnny Depp. So good to know at least 1 person in this entire production had some talent.
