Fallout 4 (2015 Video Game)
8/10
Great, But Not Perfect
21 November 2015
This game is fantastic, make no mistake. Music, graphics, world, characters (with some exceptions), story, choice and exploration are all huge improvements from 'Fallout 3', and if you're at all interested in Bethesda Game Studios' latest offering then I highly recommend you check it out.

However, some flaws hold it back from surpassing the heights seen in previous games. The removal of karma and skill points greatly reduces the customisability of your character's stats, and the lack of a level cap means the need to replay the game is severely restricted, as a patient player could unlock every perk in one playthrough. The new dialogue system is a joke, and coupled with the voiced protagonist results in less choice or role-playing capability seen in other Fallout titles. It's painfully clear that 'Fallout 4' fell victim to the streamlining Bethesda implemented into 'TESV: Skyrim', which doesn't take away from the sheer fun factor but is disappointing to some RPG fans such as myself.

Had Bethesda not begun development so soon after 'Fallout 3', vital lessons could have been learned from Obsidian Entertainment's 'Fallout: New Vegas', which features greater mechanical depth than either of Bethesda's Fallout releases and made huge improvements on the formula created in 'Fallout 3' that seem lacking in 'Fallout 4' or were left out entirely. For example, the factions system in New Vegas resulted in diverse endings and game worlds where in 4 there is little impact had on the world. The developments made in New Vegas' conversation system are curiously absent, making dialogue much less diverse in terms of impacts and outcome (likely due to the inherent restrictions of a voiced protagonist).

In conclusion, this game is ****ing great, I can't stress that enough, but is held back (in my opinion) by simplified mechanics and a story and player character that restricts player choice and customization. But for sheer fun and value, this game is worth your time.

Glee (2009–2015)

Short moments of 'okay' lost in a sea of something terrible
14 October 2013
At the time of writing this review, I have seen seasons 1 and 2, and some of season 3. I think I can review this now. My main problem with the show is the clichés that the fans refer to as characters. You've got your typical jocks, cheerleaders, the nice teacher who understands the students, the social outcasts, the fat girl, the comic relief and the obligatory gay and/or disabled people so the fans can feel like they're 'accepting' of anything. I will admit though, one or two of the actors manage to bring something special to their roles. The story is boring and has been done before dozens of times, not to mention unrealistic. A girl releases a sex tape, and she doesn't get into trouble? I call bullsh*t. If I had to say one good thing about the series, it would be the character of Sue, the borderline psychotic gym teacher/principal. Every time she's on screen, I laugh a little bit. Overall score: 3/10

Death Note (2006–2007)
8/10
A brilliant supernatural thriller that has only one major problem.
13 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Death Note is a fine thriller, the tale of a student named Light Yagami who is given th hee ability to kill people (if he has their name and face) via a notebook called the 'Death Note'. He begins a crusade to rid the world of criminals, all the while pursued by the best detective in the world, the mysterious and introverted L. The best part of Death Note is the rivalry between Light and L. Their interaction is amazing to watch, especially as they outsmart each other at every turn. The mythos for the gods of death, or shinigami, is also great. The show isn't as good after L dies, because it loses the rivalry and the game of cat and mouse between L and Light. Still, Death Note is a thrilling ride, with a few issues that may affect your enjoyment of the second story arc. 8/10.

Europa Report (2013)
10/10
Brilliant science-fiction film, poorly marketed.
8 August 2013
This movie reminds me of another sci-fi flick that was released in 2010 called 'Monsters'. 'Monsters' was also a great movie with a good message and amazing production values considering the budget it had. Unfortunately, people went to see it expecting a monster movie, which is not what it is.

'Europa Report' is the same. It's a great piece of cinema, but was marketed as an 'Alien'-type thriller. And while there's nothing wrong with that kind of movie, 'Europa Report' is more like '2001: A Space Odyssey'.

I'm glad that 'Europa Report' was made. It's a good-looking, intense and realistic sci-fi movie that will be considered the next '2001'.

My favourite animated movie.
27 July 2013
I rated this a little higher than it deserves, mostly because this movie has been with me as long as I remember. I've seen it about 30 times since it first came out. So yes, I'm a little biased.

Now that I'm older, I can look at this movie and notice things I never did before. Like the animation, for example. It's pretty good, as you would expect from the creator of the Hellboy comics. The culture created for the Atlanteans is amazing, and even has a language (which I may or may not have tried to learn a few times).

I don't get why people don't like this movie. Sure, it's a step away from the the regular Disney formula, but that's not a bad thing.

Nowhere Near As Bad As I Expected
27 May 2013
Two months ago, I challenged myself to watch all movies considered the worst by Roger Ebert. I couldn't find this movie anywhere, until last week when I found it in the one-dollar bin at the video store, the bin where bad movies go to die. I went home and started watching it. I'd read the reviews, heard what my friends had said about it, so I was expecting this to be bad. About half an hour in, I still hadn't found something I hated very much. By the end, I realized that I had enjoyed Battlefield Earth. Yes, the movie has its flaws, and Jesus, there are too many to list, but there are some positive things to say. -John Travolta'a performance as Terl is delightfully hammy and over the top. -The premise is intriguing. -The views of the post-invasion Earth (wrecked skylines of Denver, Washington) are great. -And my reason for it is that it's just... cheesy. It doesn't feel like the worst movie ever made, it feels like a bad episode of Star Trek and a bad episode of Stargate Atlantis had a love child and it grew up with William Shatner and Jim Carey. It's bad, I'll never say it's good, but I will watch it again. This movie is the ultimate guilty pleasure.

Alien 3 (1992)
10/10
An under-appreciated sequel
21 May 2013
I started my IMDb account to review this film, and to through some positive air into the mix.

Alien 3 is not the action-packed sequel that was "Aliens". It's a return to the thriller/horror genre that was the first film.

I can't understand why people don't like this film. The acting is excellent, the sets are perfect to a T, the rod puppetry that brigs the Alien to life is superb. Even the plot, which could be better, is interesting.

Besides, while it isn't as good as the first two films, it is better than all following installments in the franchise (Alien Resurrection, Alien vs Predator 1+2.) This movie is given a lot less credit than it deserves, and is a fitting ending to the Alien series. (This is the ending. Resurretion was a hallucination had by fans of the series.)
