The Conspiracy Project (2014)
Neal Fox hits the mark, over and over again,
To say that Neal Fox is a genius is an understatement. I'll give you 5 minutes, name me three people who can put together brilliant original music, brilliant lyrics and explain how things work in America in under 90 minutes while entertaining you with truth, truth, truth. Go ahead, I'll wait. Ken Burns couldn't do it. Morgan Spurlock couldn't do it. No way. You know who did it? Neal Fox did it.
With a brush as wide as a four lane highway, Fox tackles all the issues, money, race, equality, the military, politics and more and he does it like a boss. No BS, no pandering, no mixed messages just great music, animation, skits, costume changes and an eye towards uncovering why things are so screwed up in the world.
I run a pretty big film festival and I watch thousands of shorts, features, docs, animation projects and music videos every season. I can honestly say that after 12 years doing this; I have never seen a film that even gets close to what Neal Fox has created.
Is it for everyone? Yes, especially for people who need to know what is going on behind the scenes of government and in our daily lives.
Lost Angels (2014)
Angels are front and center in Stan Harrington's Lost Angels
If you are just going by the music, this film is a ten. If you just go by the cinematography, this film is a ten. If you just go by the story, this film is a ten. Oliver Piggot comes to Los Angeles with nothing but a guitar and his beautiful and haunting voice. Guess what, it's enough. Harrington continues his indie assault on the Hollywood machine by making films that matter and in this case, it's a film about the trappings of fame, fortune, sex, music and of course love that is doomed. The film plays well as a cautionary tale and that's too bad because with brilliant performances from a seasoned cast and director, you'd hope for the Disney, fairy tale ending. Let's see if we get it. No spoilers here. Great piece of filmmaking.
