The original 'Millionaire' multiplied by ten...
13 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Where the original edition of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" offered a top prize of $1 million US, "Who Wants To Be A Super Millionaire" multiplied the grand prize ten-fold. Contestants who correctly answered 15 random general knowledge questions of increasing difficulty could now win $10 million. Of course, the questions were much more difficult, but there was a twist - contestants who successfully answered the first ten questions correctly were given two new "lifelines" to help them out. In addition to the classic "Phone a Friend", "Ask the Audience" and "50:50" lifelines, contestants could ask a panel of "Three Wise Men" (in some cases, women) for their advice, and "Double Dip" into a question, getting a second chance to answer a question they got wrong (however, "Double Dip" required a contestant to commit to answering the question). (Possible Spoiler) The most money given away on the show to date was $1 million US on the second episode in February 2004.

Doctor Who Confidential (2005–2011)
"DWC" a Treat for "Who" Fans New & Old...
31 July 2005
The technology, the history, and the sense of fun that makes the new "Doctor Who" series as much fun as it is is explored in depth in this delightful series that takes viewers behind the scenes of the newest "regeneration" of the longest-running science-fiction television series in the world.

Narrated by actor Simon Pegg, who plays a key role in an episode from the first season, each episode contains interviews with cast and crew of both the new series and the original series, a look at how the new series improves on the old while paying homage to it and keeping the continuity correct, and of course, lots of exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the set.

This series is highly recommended, and special edited editions of each episode can now be viewed online at the official BBC "Doctor Who" website.

Condor (1985 TV Movie)

High-Tech Fun in a Retro Cop-Show setting
29 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Not long ago, I saw a US television special about pilot episodes which didn't make it to the series stage. I was pleasantly surprised to see the ABC TV movie "Condor" mentioned. I first saw it on air in England about 17 years ago, where it has since enjoyed a DVD release. Ray Wise is a detective in futuristic Los Angeles, with Wendy Kilbourne as his beautiful sidekick, who is in fact an android. They are part of a crime-fighting organization called Condor, and on this case, they find themselves up against a female criminal mastermind (Carolyn Seymour, a recurring guest star on Star Trek: TNG). She has stolen top secret codes allowing her access to military technology, including a fleet of remote-operated drone helicopters with missile launchers. She threatens to level much of Los Angeles unless Wise's character, an old arch-nemesis, surrenders to her. Wise and Kilbourne set out to bring her to justice and save the city. With its drone helicopters, an android character who appears human, and futuristic technology which replaced bullets with laser guns, "Condor" was very high-tech for a TV movie dating back to 1986. I would love to see this one again.
