The Lunchbox (2013)
Totally flummoxed by the housefuls of such an offbeat festival movie
2 October 2013
Not sure whether the audience taste has come of age or the "Oscar Hopeful" marketing strategy is creating buzz or the movie is really entertaining!!! I remember Dhobi Ghat being utterly scrapped and Ship of Theseus catching the attention of only a specific segment of society. Then what is the stark difference between Lunchbox and other two? I am absolutely clueless in understanding the choice of Janta and finding it very challenging to ascertain the common factor among the number producing movies. Nevertheless, the movie is grossing like any other commercial, star-studded extravaganza. Looks like Karan Johar (one of the producer) has mastered the number cracking formula.

Sushant Singh Rajput is the Star in making
8 September 2013
Is it a reflection of the society or society is going to take lessons from this? Either way, its good for guys. With all the new Anti Men laws being passed from a blind – decision less- media driven government, its safe to be in a Live In Relationship than getting married. That's exactly this movie is projecting or preaching…..

Raghu (Sushant) is getting married to Tara (Vaani) when he meets Gayatri (Parineeti), being paid to play his fake sister (I never knew about such a business, existing in India or to be precise in Rajasthan!!!). He gets attracted towards chirpy, bold and straight forward, Gayatri and ends up running away from his own marriage (Runway BrideGroom). Raghu charms Gayatri and shifts in her rustic – terrace apartment, playing her fake Brother to the society.

Krish 3 Theatrical was really awesome which came before the movie…
12 August 2013
I don't usually write the reviews of Tamil Movies, but I am making this exception only for Deepika Padukone here. She is fascinating in the movie, the perfect beauty for the movie, great poise and outstanding acting. Though it was a trial of Shahrukh to Comedy but she superseded him in Comedy and proved yet again that she can do any type of role. Long way to go gal…. Since Salman Khan has already started stealing the formula of south movies and making them a big hit with masses in Bollywood 3 years back, Shahrukh went one step ahead and stole their language also to increase the mass audience size and yes, he got the numbers right; He is going laughing to the Bank.

Saints are supposed to follow celibacy then why are you practicing so much of intellectual Masturbation….
5 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Saints are supposed to follow celibacy then why are you practicing so much of intellectual Masturbation….

This is a dialogue from the movie and this movie is full of such erudite and surprising humorous dialogues. Not only the dialogues, this movie itself is a piece of intellectualism. From the title to the dialogue, to the subplots, to the story, to the acting; everything is so scholarly and has a background of its own that if you are able to get each and everything then you really belong to that elite world of intellectuals. I will give you few examples excluding the meaning of the title; that you should figure out by yourself at least. One of the character's names is Charvaka who is supposed to have founded the first Atheist system in our Indian Philosophy and the character also plays similar practice. The same characters also dons a T-shirt with a phrase – "Pastafarian" written on it. Pastafarian comes from the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a light hearted view of religion. Mentions of the Novel Perfume to correlate the intent of one of the Protagonist.

The movie is a big intellectual conversation amongst a set of people who are also playing the protagonist in the film. The director has taken help of conversation or dialogues to portray the contemplation of the protagonists and their idealism, identity, dualism, pseudo identity and Theseus's paradox. It is really a very scholarly movie I have ever seen in Indian Cinema. This one fits into the league of Eat, Pray and Love or Darjeeling Express. The movie is highly innovative and keeps you thinking all the time and finally influences you at the end. It sends out a very clear message to donate your organs in the end - to be the simplest explanation of the movie, otherwise it gives you too much food for thought.

The director tries to cash on the image of his actors' last movie to the maximum…..
29 June 2013
If Vidya Balan is in the movie, its next to impossible to start your views about the movie without her. After the long list of the movies she has done previously she has proved her mettle and become the better version of Lady Amir Khan (I know many people will kill me for saying this!!!). I don't know whether it was her conscious decision to choose this movie or her director persuaded her to cash on her Kahani Image, but it works well. The entire marketing campaign also seems to be designed on that line. But let me tell you straight away, though she is extremely good in the movie, the hero is undoubtedly Imraan Hashmi.

Raanjhanaa (2013)
How Politics can ruin a beautiful story….
24 June 2013
Politics can ruin love, politics can ruin career, politics can ruin life and Politics can ruin a beautiful story. This is Raanjhanaa!!! Just kidding! It's not politics actually; it's the people who start playing politics in their life ruin everything. Zoya played by a Sonam Kapoor is a Muslim girl of Banaras who is forced to fall in love with Kundan played by Dhanush in her childhood because of his consistency and typical small town – lower middle class approach to propose a girl by attempting suicide. He being a Hindu is not acceptable to her family. She retaliates; as a result parents send her to Aligarh for further studies to avoid Kundan's proximity. But Kundan is madly in love with her and waiting her to come back. She comes back after 8 years and has forgotten Kundan (what bullshit!!). Kundan confronts her and she reveals that she loves somebody else from College. She uses Kundan to get her love. He being fully devoted to her, does whatever she says. But somewhere he has a feeling of revenge and he gets his chance. But his action leads to a dramatic turn in the story. This is first half which is a full package of entertainment. The tempo of the story is very gud up to here.

Bombay Talkies – 1. Karan johar 2. Joya akhtar 3. Anurag kashyap 4. Dibakar benerjee
19 June 2013
Surprisingly karan johar gave the best. The guy has talent, don't understand why he is wasting it in making crappy love – family – over the top – mega dramatic movies. His story is the best. Its crisp and very nicely explained and sends out the message very clearly with entertainment. Though all the other directors have also tried the same but they lacked some how. I would say karan wins by a wide margin here. The second one is Joya Akhtar, she manages to send out the message clearly. The story is very sensitive but no entertainment factor unlike karan. Anurag tries to do both and wants to repeat the GOW charm but could not live upto that. The bihari accent dialogues looks repetitive. Though couple of new punches but not very entertaining.

Amazed by the leaps of Indian Cinema..
19 June 2013
Really, its amazing to see the new crop of Directors, Actors, Writers, Musicians, Singers, Technicians that is driving Indian Cinema to a new Horizon. This new generation people are threatening the traditional Hindi Cinema people by their talent and either putting these people on the sidelines or pushing them to try something new. Sanjay Leela Bhansali making a movie on Mary Kom, Karan Johar trying his hands in Bombay Talkies and other big film houses giving shelters to the new gen directors are amongst the few example of changing times. Of course some people are put on sidelines and some have not learnt. And Shahrukh trying to work with successful comedy Film Maker Rohit Shetty to save his career & brand somehow.

Living a PAKISTANI DREAM.
19 June 2013
Yes, Mira nair is exactly doing that. Not living an American dream and rather living a Pakistani Dream. What a movie and what a performance!!! A movie to showcase life of innocent pakistanies to be considered and falsely convicted as terrorist or criminals. The movie uncovers the true emotions of such a man who goes through all the brutalities of victimization by totally stupid intelligence personals. The same is shown in one of the scene in the movie where an officer repeatedly asks the protagonist same question about him being a terrorist. As if he will change his answer. The nerdy and procedural stupidity of Americans is also shown in many other scenes where the protagonist is held under surveillance and troubled every now and again without any particular reason. Since the Americans have a habit of following specific procedures so they also want everyone to follow the same. That is how the theme of the movie is built up.

A perfect escape destination – Ye Jawani Hai Deewani.
19 June 2013
Yes the movie is a perfect example of escapism. A Full on candy Floss- Fantasy -Formula love story with a tinch of reality checks here & there. It appears to be very modern and todays love story though it is almost a replica of 18 years old DDLJ. Dot by dot the story is same. Group of friends go to have a trip. The guys tease girls and girl finally falls for guy without knowing whether the guy also thinks same. And yes, the guy also realizes that and follows his love to a mega wedding ceremony which last for entire second half. Only difference here is the characters themselves and their dream are the major roadblock in the love story instead of their families. And eventually they overcome it. There is nothing much new in the story here but what new is the treatment, the way the story is being portrayed. Kudos to this young chap – Ayan Mukherjee who took up such a big challenge of redefining an old love story and man, he did his job!!!
