The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Lacking in everything that made The Sopranos great.
A prequel to The Sopranos? I'm not so sure.
This standalone movie was just trading on the name in an obvious cash-grab.
This movie lacked some key elements, most importantly a coherent plot. It was also lacking good writing, character depth and good acting. It seemed painfully obvious to me that everyone involved was just there for the paycheck. The movie had no heart. No soul.
I can see how this poor attempt of a Sopranos film will disappoint die-hard fans of the series. It lacked everything that made The Sopranos one of the best series in television history.
My solution is simply to forget it even exists. It won't be difficult. There wasn't anything about it that was memorable.
Heist (2021)
Not a documentary series.
I don't know why Netflix would choose to take an interesting and compelling subject matter and turn it into an over-dramatized, over-stylized, low-rent Tarantino knock-off. I forced myself to make it through the first story then realized I was just wasting my time. Reading about the individual stories is far more interesting than suffering through this dreck.
Suicide Kings (1997)
Among the worst movies I've seen - with scumbags a-plenty.
I originally had a somewhat lengthy, detailed review formulated in my head.. I was going to go into depth about the many truly awful mistakes that the screenwriter and director made during this film's production. I mostly felt sorry for the actors.. Especially Dennis Leary and Christopher Walken. Their talents were mostly wasted here.
But I'll save us all the headache and distill it down to a "TL/DR". Here goes:
It's a convoluted, mess of a movie about a bunch of degenerate gambler scumbags who fake the kidnapping of a female scumbag while committing a real kidnapping of a major league scumbag. Some truly asinine plot twists ensue, some scumbags are shot and then the actual guilty scumbags are shot - but you don't get to actually see that part. The End.
Marcella (2016)
Seasons One & Two were good.. Stop there!
I rarely write reviews, but I felt the need to warn fans of this show to not watch season three. We've all suffered through some dreck before, but season three was unforgivable. I can't see how it wont be a career killer for not just the writers but all of the cast as well. Anna Friel is a decent actress, but this was definitely a low point in her career. Her performance made me not want to see her in anything ever again. Granted, the script was a complete and total mess, but she didn't have the chops to save it.. as a matter of fact, she made it worse. It was so bad that everyone involved should just remove this series from their resumes. I can't say it more bluntly: Season three was just a big steaming pile from which everyone involved just needs to distance themselves.
