Amazing and uplifting
25 May 2022
I love how this show promotes body positivity. This show focuses on contestants who uplif and motivate each other instead of promoting back stabbing or overly competitive behavior. I found this show to be wholesome in its representation of women. It's helped me a lot to have something that is powerfully positive and inspirational. I love this show. For any newcomers check it out and see if it's your cup of tea? Don't like it? That's okay? End up loving it? That's great too!

Hooked un the first episode

The first episode kept me engaged the entire time. I know some fans would prefer the show to be bloodier and darker, but I felt the director did a great job showing less . I'm a huge fan of Marvel and thus far I have enjoyed the tv shows immensely. Looking forward to seeing more episodes!

Absolutely amazing

I'm a huge fan of Batman's rogue villains so this movie was perfect for me. Batman is usually in the background for the duration of this film so the villains get most of the spotlight. The dynamic between the suicide team (Harley Quinn, Killer Shark, Killer Cross, Black Spider, Boomerang, and Deadshot) is extremely entertaining and sure to please comic book fans and the non-introduced alike. The personalities were on point, the jokes and dark humor were perfect, and since this animated film is pg-13 the movie was able to hint at the depravity and insanity that is Gotham city. I was entertained for the entire 1hr 15 minutes and wished it was longer.

Fantastic for me, but watch it and see for yourself
28 May 2014
First off, I'm going to just state that I know very little of WWI. Although the coverage of WWII was abysmal in my high school, there were ample documentaries/films regarding this major conflict for me to absorb compared to WWI. I knew of Churchill, Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Roosevelt, etc during this time, but nothing of how WWI shaped these people and the actions that caused WWII. For me, this documentary (part 1) wasn't necessarily about the battles, but about the leaders that the First World War created. The documentary wasn't overly sensational, nations weren't vilified or god-like, which is often a problem with TV productions. My love and interest in military history grew even more when I watched this documentary so I'm going to give it a high rating.

So, if you're really into WWI and you want the focus to be on the men fighting rather than the politics this documentary might not be for you. However, if you like seeing connections and seeing the threads that are interwoven between WWI and WWII (and beyond), I would definitely suggest giving this a go.

Simply fantastic!

This show is amazing not because of its progressive stance (a multi-racial family that includes same-sex parents), but its ability to avoid stereotyping. We could've had a show that took a political standpoint for or against gay marriage, but instead we get a series that paints a loving family going through the trials that all families have to go through. Everyone's different background (the Latino twins, the delinquent foster child, the son from one of the partner's previous marriage) could've been used to create one dimensional characters whose behavior was predicted based on label. However, this show doesn't resort to that. It has a well- rounded cast in terms of acting and has you empathize with every P.O.V. :] Thank you ABC Family for giving us this rare gem. Sad we had to wait till now to get something like this on television.

Sullivan & Son (2012–2014)

Watch it if you have nothing else to watch

I grew up on Cheers and Sullivan and Son seems like a failed attempt at that. The only focal point is centered on what's going on in the bar, the character that's always there until closing, the dim-witted character, the guy that knows everything, etc). It has all the makings of Cheers without any of the pizazz and well-thought out characterization. This show would be fine if it was a carbon-copy because Cheers is an iconic show and having a modern version would be great, but there's something severely lacking in this rendition. It's either the fact that we have to be reminded of Steve Byrne's biracial identity (literally each episode, the mother or father will say, "oh but you're half"), the flat punchline, the obnoxious laugh track, or the bad line delivery/bad timing that make this show mediocre at best. Bad timing especially is the show's weakest link.

With other shows you get to know the characters and so when they're suddenly forced into a new situation, it's hilarious because it's so alien. In this show however, they skim the surface of every character and then force them into a situation as if we've known them for years (for example, Owen, the not-so bright character does these amazing things when the bar closes down, but it happens all in one episode. It'd be more witty and satisfying for the audience to see him in each episode come in in different attire. Like, one day he's dressed in a suit and says, "I work for the bank now." or another day he's a post-man, another he's working at the homeless shelter, etc. While I appreciate a show that has an interracial setting (the first of its kind, I think), the script seems rehashed and flat.

Simply fantastic
27 June 2013
Sadly, I didn't watch this film in theaters. When I saw the trailer, I became excited -I grew up watching old classic black-and-white horror movies with Dracula, the werewolf, Frankenstein, the invisible man, the mummy etc- but as soon as I saw that Adam Sandler was in the cast, I turned away. I let my dislike of Sandler get in the way of watching this extraordinary film. Luckily, I found it -albeit a few months later- and it's easily among my favorite animated films. It's smart enough for adult audiences and yet, still has that ability to nurture and cultivate one's imagination. Thank you for the laughs and the tears and the wonder, Hotel Transylvania!
