Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Good overall, with some weak acting.
I love the feel of all of the new Star Wars content. This is a good story.
The only complaint I have about this one is the stiff acting of Moses Ingram. Haven't we figured out yet that a villain has to be more than stern and flat? To say her acting was uninspired would be an understatement.
Not sure why they made Leia so spunky, but I guess it grows on you in a way.
This is my second time watching the series through. The first time I was immersed in the story and the power the character portrayed. The second time around the flat performance really stands out to me.
I still love the show and give it a good rating, but I'm here to say I hope Disney casts better actors in these iconic shows going forward.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
So much wasted potential
This could have been amazing. The storyline of the animated series has nearly unlimited potential. This live action remake is plagued by unbelievable acting. At times I found myself wondering if I was watching a powerful character in a magical land, or just a valley girl who thinks it's cute to mouth breathe.
The villains lack the villainy that draws the audience into the story line and makes them root for the heroes.
Overall the special effects are impressive, but it appears to be a widely delegated project that at times doesn't tie together well. One scene in particular, a flying scene shows the characters moving at a speed far too fast for the overall speed of the film, followed by heavy fog that appears to have been added to cloak the lackluster effects. The scene was rendered fuzzy and notably distracting.
It's worth a watch, but my oh my... The squandered potential is disappointing.
Powder (1995)
Great Movie, but I have some complaints.
35 people worked on the sound of this movie, and not one of them had the sense to say, "hey, how about we make the dialog loud enough to hear, and the sound effects quiet enough not to damage our audience's hearing"?
The worst sound mixing in the history of movies.
This movie is from the era of superheroes before superheroes movies took over Hollywood. An extraordinary person, not from DC or Marvel.
Disadvantaged and misunderstood, think "Good will hunting" but paler, and without a group of blue collar buddies and a pretty girl to chase.
Don't get me wrong, there is a pretty girl, but this guy just wants to go back to his home, not fall for the pretty redhead.
The Witcher: Reunion (2023)
Cinematography made me cringe.
That horse riding scene and reunion at the end were horrid. I'm not sure if we are letting some younger people take the helm or be responsible for parts within these episodes, but I cannot fathom how that was released like that.
The show as a whole is struggling to maintain it's edge and hook, but at the least it was always beautiful and pleasant to watch. If we are going to drop the ball on the visually striking and pleasant element, this show had better step up the plot and character interactions. I think everyone is getting tired of the politicians sitting around a table and bickering. This isn't game of thrones.
Blown Away (2019)
What card do you hold?
Anyone who picks a politically correct theme is safe from elimination at the least of not to win. Incredibly interesting craftsmanship, entertaining to watch. In the end the judges self admittedly did not pick the best glassblower.
