Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022)
Awesome as always but...
This looks and feels like they had no live audience (no footage) and just laugh tracked it. If they did, Ricky is just simply a master at this craft. If they didn't, why didn't you show the audience and why is the laughing too predictable and robotic? Aside from the "simulation" feel to this, Ricky really is one of the cutting edge and progressive but established and genius comedians alive.
Lockout (2012)
Why Good Pitch Men Still Exist
The only reason this got made is because of a good salesman. Excellent idea very poorly executed. This is Guy's Garfield for sure. The soundtrack implies they were serious. The rest looks like they knew it was a farce.
Cut Bank (2014)
Who talks like this?
I would've given it 8 stars but couldn't see past Hemsworth's wooden treatment and the way these people talk. Too much forced noir from the writer clashing against the backdrop of plain Jane small town setting. Otherwise it was a great plot and directed well.
Mandy (2018)
It's All In The Sound People
If you enjoy hi-fi stereo listening and trippy imagery, this is for you. If you don't have a proper home theater, don't bother watching. 80% of this movie's allure is in the sound, the rest is psychedelic imagery. I feel like I'm tripping on something watching this masterpiece. Nic is probably his most brilliant in parts like this. Panos is another Stanley Kubric among us and should be appreciated for his vision. It is truly astounding to see his work so early. I imagine his films will continue to polarize audiences until something strikes a chord with the mainstream. The best way to describe Mandy is "Brutally Beautiful".
