Tin Star (2017)
delete Tim Roth's typecasted role and what is left is vacuum
Some actors i can always watch, like Scarlet Johannson or Tim Roth. Even if Tim plays all too common roles, he stil does it each time with excellent distinction - which is worth seeing.
But is that enough for a good show?
Perhaps add a few good performers and performances?
If they threw in all A list actors making A+ performance it cannot substitute for poor written story.
Season 1 is weird wicked and dark but then the story can be anything we want it to be. Mediocre plot at best, but still enjoyable for Tim Roth aficionados.
Then comes s02 and the story is so bad that it is painful to watch. It introduces so many characters with so little definition, professing of love, allegiance and "I owe it to you" as needed for the moment, truckloads of logical fallacies, contradictory plot segments, run through the plot segments that would ashame Ussain Bolt. I doubt even ultimate gullible folks will buy into plot line of season 2.
One or two lines is what made me go through season 2 and if it was a weekly wait for a new episode I would never go past s02 e01. Luckily, ffwd button and streaming allow one to jump large chunks. The resulting sentiment is that s02 was a quick, half coked, poor attempt to extend the somewhat decent s01.
To sum up, season 1 is worth the watching if any of the actors are your favourites. It is better watching the grass grow than watching season 2.
3 stars for few shiny moments of acting in Season 1.
Zona Zamfirova (2002)
A definitive "must see"
The movie it self is as a matter of fact done fairly poorly when it comes to details (bad pronunciation of southern accent by numerous actors, bad acting by some actors, too much synthesized music). The scenery, thou it looks fairly realistic, could have been done much better knowing that the original buildings and streets from that time are still there. However, overall, the story and movie are very good. Music is traditional or well composed to sound similar, acting is in general good, the story telling never goes dull or boring (as a matter of fact it keeps you quite focused), the southern accent gets very amusing.
Maybe not the best movie of all the times but a definitive miss if not seen and a definitive multiple viewing if seen once.
