Invasion (2021)
Should have ended after series 1!
The first series of this was brilliant! The second series, however, ended up being an utter snooze fest! I hate when this happens! They have a great story line, get you hooked and then give up!! Let's hope the writers of this stay on strike and don't bother coming back for series 3!
You really have to write a long review don't you?! So series two seemed to have lots going on but it didn't feel it was heading in any logical direction. Why were those kids all connected to the aliens? Why was the Japanese woman so hung up on her dead girlfriend all the time?? She didn't even want to admit to dating you, so move on!!
Smile (2022)
Rubbish!
What a load of rubbish! I enjoyed watching the people on Googlebox watching it more than I've enjoyed watching this pile of poo!!
It's one of those horror films that is only scary (ie makes you jump) because no one turns the Dan lights on!! There was nothing more scary than it just being too dark to see anything! Pop a few lamps on and there is nothing to be scared of!
I really want to post this review but need to type a further one hundred and sixty odd characters, despite the fact I do not really have anything further to say about the film. So consider this to be a purely bulking paragraph
!!
The Portable Door (2023)
Eh?
The film started off well - loved the main guys disastrous start to the day. Then it went a bit weird! What was going on with the doors? Why could he sense things? What's the deal with the goblins? It's like the makers decided we didn't need to know WHY any of this was happening - which I totally disagree with!
It's lazy film making when you just skip out all backstory! Couldn't you have found some way to just keep us a bit up to speed of what was going on?
And why do the reviews need to be so long? I'm just on a character count down now and trying to use as many flowery words as possible! Done it!
The Little Mermaid (2023)
A lovely remake!
I took my 9 year old daughter to see this yesterday. Funny enough, I was 9 when the original was released.
I've not enjoyed any of the live action remakes of Disney films recently - they've all just been horrid! So I wasn't expecting much from this! However, I really enjoyed it!
I thought the casting was great - My only criticism of Ariel is I think hair should have been a bit redder!
I loved the extra bits. The fact Prince Eric had a collection of sea treasures just like Ariel was really sweet! And I love that they weren't just married off at the end but went off on an adventure themselves.
My daughter also loved the film - and as a 9 year old girl she is obviously the real target audience here so is the real one whose opinion counts!!
The Midwich Cuckoos (2022)
Brilliant
I'm so baffled by the people who've watched 1 episode and then slated it because it isn't the original film has made me have to write a review!
I've really enjoyed this. The acting is great - the kids were all super weird and creepy! The last episode especially was really intense! Thoroughly good - and uncomfortable - series!
Senior Year (2022)
Awful film!
So I wasn't expecting great things and this film was actually worse than I expected it to be! It was terrible! I cannot stand rebel Wilson so should have guessed I'd hate it. What was Justin Hartley thinking appearing in this?!
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Enjoyable.
I enjoyed this slightly strange, parody (I assume!) series! Took the mick out of these sorts of films and books and was funny in places. Nice quick episodes so perfect for a binge!
De Familie Claus (2020)
Plot holes
So we are currently watching this and there are some BIG plot holes!
Why is Santa delivering presents from 23rd?? He started delivering to Austria first and people had left cookies out for him wtf?! Had the person whose made this movie even ever celebrated Christmas??
Also, what's the deal with way they've wrapped presents?? Once I spotted the doll wrapped all around each limb, I couldn't stop noticing the horrible wrapping!!
These were enough to ruin the film with me! Plus the dubbing! (I'm watching with my kids - subtitles aren't an option!) I felt like I'm watching a Korean dubbed film with the overacting!
Oh and why is the mum on day 2 of her job and is trying to save the factory? Why not start her own rival cookie business and take over instead??
Christmas in the Highlands (2019)
Terrible
This is a truly terrible movie! Why are most the people in Scotland English?? Why was the posh girl and her mum having their nails done in some crappy Chinese nail bar on a main road? Why did anyone tell the lead actress she could act? Horrible!
The Sinner (2017)
3 was a let down
The first two series were great but the 3rd has been a real let down. Did the man ever stop talking?? I'd have happily shot him myself I think!
A Firehouse Christmas (2016)
Truly awful
I do love a Christmas movie - full of cheese! However this one was just horrid. They were a horrible bunch of people. The grandfather was foul. The dad didn't have any balls to stand up and say 'she's my kid, sod off!' The mother was HORRID! Who would refuse to give their daughter a Christmas present on Christmas morning from her dad??
Manifest (2018)
Good
Eve just finished the first series and I wanted to write a review, because did read some bad ones on here! Some people said it got dull after the first few episodes and stopped being about the disappeared plane and their callings, and ended up like a soap opera - eh?! Yes, there was some relationship stuff involved, by that was needed as these people had been awol for 5 years!! But every episode was based around this calling they were having and then trying to work out what it all means! The acting wasn't exactly RADA quality, but they were still good! And the cliffhanger has definitely left me wanting series 2!
Secret Obsession (2019)
So frustrating!
I don't often review films on here, but this one was special!
First, have these characters never watched a movie before in their life? She could have escaped him at least 40 minutes earlier if she had. Why did the cop not call for back up at any point? Like when he cottoned on the guy was lying? Who was the random bloke at the beginning who brought flowers? Why did they play bad guy music over his scenes and why was he murdered? It makes no sense!!
I kind of wish she'd been killed in the end and nutty Russel had got away to stall someone else.
Ibiza (2018)
Such a tedious film!
Are people really like this? The main woman and her mates - the friends especially are just horrid people! The way they talk just makes them sound like simpletons! And why are they just merrily going to strangers houses in foreign countries and taking drugs off of everyone? I was hoping the film would turn into a slasher to perk things up a bit!
