Madgaon Express (2024)
A Goa Trip For The Ages!
There have been a bunch of movies on a group of friends taking a trip to Goa. This movie succeeds in remaining fresh. It is marketed as a comedy and it delivers on the same. The casting is near perfect. Pratik Gandhi and Dibyendu have well carved roles. Avinash Tiwary did well too. The dialogues are real funny. Even though some of the dialogues just wander around about to cross the line, the movie doesn't let one take it seriously. The editing is on point. It adds to the comedic element at places really well.
Kunal Khemu himself has acted in comedy movies and is known for his own comedy style. This movie as a first time director proves that he can make good movies that are fun and light too. It definitely seems like Kunal is self-assured and knows what kind of a film he wants to showcase.
Plus Points:
Casting
Performances
Dialogues
Editing
Kunal Khemu
Minus Points:
Songs
Loose screenplay
Conclusion:
Watch the movie in the theatres, even better with friends.
Ante Sundharaniki (2022)
Good movie, with an illogical first half.
The movie explores issues in a new way. It's an okay movie for me. The performances were good too. The movie is riddled with repetition and it becomes too banal within the movie itself.
Toofaan (2021)
A Toofaani movie which lacks the impact of a real Toofan!
I would not have written, if hadn't seen such pathetic reviews given by a lot of haters on this page now. The movie had the potential to build on something really great, but the writer relies a tad too much on the clichés for the film to actually show something completely new.
Now, that it talks about the love story between two people from different religions, is neither unusual nor something novel. But given the runtime, I didn't feel as if the two protagonists were in a relationship even. It lacked the general zeal of a romantic relationship. Given that this is what drives the central character get back into the boxing ring, it is something that didn't feel organic.
I was also expecting the training montage similar to Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. And the music was similar too. So, that was very disappointing for me.
And the climax was made for an 8 year old kid, to believe!
Paatal Lok (2020)
A Riveting Crime-Thriller
What I liked about this show:
1. Screenplay and structuring
2. Cinematography
3. Performances
4. Chase Sequences
What I didn't like about the show:
1. Poor conclusion
2. Few characters that are part of the show just to fill spaces.
In a nutshell, even though the show has a few flaws, it manages to keep the viewer hooked and at the edge of the seat, like a thriller should!
