The Predator (2018)
offensive "humour" and missed opportunities
The movie itself was not necessarily awful. Okay, maybe a bit, but hey that's okay 'cause it's Predator! The cast is a bit... I'm not so sure whether they are the right choices. The attempts at (neuro) diversity were there, with one of the gang having Tourettes and the main character's son having Asperger's, but then they took this way out of control and started mocking it. "Don't mind him, he's retarded" or the biologist asking the main character to make his son "stop with the psychosis". I mean, really? This doesn't seem like a good way to deal with autism and meltdowns, is all I'm saying. These remarks for me sealed the deal. Not a fan. They could have ditched the lame jokes (and continuous rain of F-bombs) and actually taken the plot somewhere, some of the premises in the movie were really promising but were left behind, focusing only on the more simple "shoot first and ask questions later" approach. What about this hybridization? why did it happen? What if the "friendly" Predator stays behind and helps the people defend themselves against the other Predators?
That is all.
